Advanced Seat Selection

With advanced seat selection, passengers can enjoy more space to stretch their legs or avoid sitting separately from their friends or family.

Advanced seat selection applies for flights operated by Vietnam Airlines. Depending on the type of ticket (family fare), passengers may pre-reserve their seats for free or for a small fee. 
- Business and Premium Economy Class: Free seat selection. 
- Economy Class:
   + Economy Flex ticket: Free seat selection. 
   + Economy Classic ticket: Free seat selection for standard seat.
   + Economy Lite/Super Lite ticket: Passengers can pay to reserve their seats from the moment of booking until online check-in (24 hours before flight departure).

Note: 

  • Passengers can select their seats free of charge when online check-in opens.
  • Adults flying with an infant are not eligible for buying advanced seats (as an infant must be seated under an oxygen mask).

Advance seat selection in Economy Class

Passengers can choose one from the following seat types:

  • Extra Legroom Seats, e.g., exit row (*) provide passengers with more space to stretch their legs.
  • Forward zone Seats (Aisle/Middle/Window) located closer to the doors allow passengers to be among the first to disembark the plane.
  • Standard Seats: Most seats in Economy class are standard seats except for seats next to emergency exit doors, or those with extra legroom.

(*)  For safety reasons, in case of exit row seating, passengers must meet the following requirements:

  • Are of at least 15 but not over 60 years of age.
  • Are physically able to assist crew if needed, must not be pregnant, nor traveling with infants or pets.
  • Must be able to read and understand instructions required related to emergency evacuation, provided in printed or graphic form and must be able to understand the crew's verbal commands.
  • Must not require an extension seat belt.
  • Must not have any conditions that might prevent passengers from performing any or all evacuation assistance functions (e.g. operating the exit door).

Please note that the crew in command has the authority to re-seat if there are any doubts as to the passengers' ability to perform the evacuation tasks.

How to reserve your seat in advance?

Advanced seat selection can be made in the following ways:

  • When booking online (website, mobile app) or booking through travel agents in Vietnam (using Sabre Interact system); other agents need to access Manage Booking to reserve seats for the customer.
  • After booking a flight with us, passengers can log in to Manage Booking to reserve their seats.
  • Passengers can also book at our general sales agents, ticketing offices, or in-town check-in service.

How much will it cost?

Advanced seat selection fees vary depending on the seat type selected and the flight. Prices can be found in Manage Booking or when passengers make their booking. Fees start from:

  • On Domestic Flights: VND 30.000
  • On International Flights: USD 5 (~ VND 115.000)

Changes

Passengers may change their reserved seats, but should review the refunds section below. 

  • Passengers should contact the place of purchase and pay the difference when choosing higher paid seats as seat prices vary. If passengers change to a lower priced seat, Vietnam Airlines will be unable to refund the difference.
  • Or access Manage Booking to reserve their new seats and pay the full fees again if required to do so. In this case, passengers can claim a refund as mentioned in the section below.

If passengers change their flight after reserving their seats, their seats will be chosen again on the new flight.

Refunds

When can passengers not claim a refund?

  • Passengers cancel the flight.
  • Passengers change their flight and will be entitled to choose an equivalent seat on their new flight. If passengers don’t choose their new seats again, passengers will miss their right of seat selection from the previous flight.
  • Passengers are not eligible to sit in the seat type selected (according to safety regulations) e.g. an exit row seat.
  • It is more than 14 days since the completion of the last flight.

When can passengers claim a refund?

Passengers can claim a refund for paid seats if it is within 14 days of the completion of the last flight in their itinerary, and they meet the following requirements:

  • There is an aircraft change (seat numbers or seat attributes are changed), or your flight has been canceled and Vietnam Airlines cannot arrange a suitable alternative seat.
  • The connecting flights from an inbound and/or outbound flight operated by Vietnam Airlines are missed because of re-schedule.
  • Passengers buy and pay full fees for the new seat (Passengers can claim a refund for the original advanced seat selection).

Purchased seat selection can be refunded at the place of purchase.

  • If passengers purchase their preferred seat online (via website or mobile app), please contact us via onlinesupport@vietnamairlines.com.
  • If passengers purchase their preferred seat from a travel agent, please contact your travel agent.

Upgrade service offered by Vietnam Airlines will allow passengers the opportunity to experience our premium in-flight services and enjoy more space for working and relaxation.


How to book your upgrade

  • Economy Flex and Economy Classic passengers can book the upgrade on Vietnam Airlines’ website/ ticket offices at any time from 24 hours to 6 hours before the estimated time of departure, or at the last-minute ticket office at the Noi Bai/Tan Son Nhat international airport from 6 hours to 1.5 hours before the estimated time of departure.
  • Upgrade service is available on our operated flights between Vietnam and France, Germany, England, Russia or Australia.

Important Information

The upgrade costs are valid from September 25th, 2019.

The upgrade costs include tax, fees.

The free baggage allowance associated with the originally booked fare will apply to the upgraded flights.

The frequent flyer mileage accrual is the same as stated in the original ticket.

The Lounge access eligibility is based on your original class.

Upgrades are not applicable to:

  • The following routes:
    1. Between Australia and Vietnam: 14/12/2019 – 29/12/2019
    2. Between Europe and Vietnam: 14/12/2019 – 06/01/2020
  • Voluntary Refund/Changes.
  • Children under two (2) years of age.
  • Passengers who have already checked in.

MEET AND GREET SERVICE AT THE AIRPORT

Meet and Greet service is offered to passengers departing, transferring, or arriving at Noi Bai (Hanoi), Danang (Danang), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City) airports. Passengers will have a smooth start, a fast – track through all the airport formalities, seamless transfer between flights and arrive at their destinations with speed and ease.

Departure with a smooth start

Our staff will welcome and escort you from the check-in hall to the boarding gate:

  • Fast check-in for flight at the “Special Assistance” counter.
  • Fast lane at security and immigration with assistance service. (*)
  • Guidance to the boarding gate.
  • Fast receiving checked – baggage upon arrival with priority handling service.

Fast track through all the airport formalities and take you to the arrival hall

  • Welcome service upon arrival at the bridge or at the arrival terminal entrance.
  • Fast track and assistance service at immigration (international flights). (*)
  • Assistance service at the baggage drop-off area.
  • Complimentary porter service from the baggage drop-off area to the outside of the arrival terminal.

Transferring as smoothly as possible

We will meet you on arrival at the bridge or at the arrival terminal entrance.
  • Fast - track you through the transfer desk formalities.
  • Assistance service for transferring between terminals or within the same terminal.

Passengers should reserve Meet and Greet service at Vietnam Airlines' branch offices at least 24 hours before estimated departure time.
