In 2024, the project "Contributing Leaves to Repair the Forest – For a Green Vietnam and Sustainable Development" leverages the current customer base of Vietnam Airlines, the financial and technological platform of MoMo, and the experience of PanNature in implementing forest conservation and restoration projects. Vietnam Airlines and MoMo each contribute 5,000 VND – equivalent to one "Leaf" – from every flight ticket transaction above 2 million VND to support the forest restoration program in 2024. The project aims to restore forests along the corridor connecting Hòa Bình and Sơn La, areas severely degraded due to human impact. Officially launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, the project has planted over 60,000 trees of 18 native species and restored over 80 hectares of forest in the two regions, improving wildlife habitats. The project not only focuses on environmental aspects but also brings significant benefits to the local community. Activities like timber harvesting and developing ecotourism have created sustainable livelihoods for hundreds of families. The project "For a Green Vietnam and Sustainable Development" aims to restore forests along the corridor between Hòa Bình and Sơn La. More than 600 local people directly participated in the forest planting activities, gaining a deeper understanding of the crucial role of protecting natural resources for their lives and livelihoods. The "For a Green Vietnam and Sustainable Development" project also aims to restore 500 hectares of forest in Hòa Bình and Sơn La by 2032. Businesses and customers will be the financial contributors, while PanNature will provide technical expertise, implementation, and supervision. Local governments and communities will be responsible for planting, caring for, and protecting the forests. This initiative has also been included in the event library of the global airline alliance SkyTeam, highlighting Vietnam Airlines’ pioneering position, not only in national initiatives but also in making a strong international impact, leaving a deep mark on social responsibility and commitment to practical solutions for the future. Receiving the "Sustainable Idea" award is recognition of Vietnam Airlines' efforts to create sustainable value not only in aviation but also for the community and the environment. For years, Vietnam Airlines has continuously worked with the community to participate in environmental protection programs. In 2022, Vietnam Airlines signed a commitment agreement with the Youth Union of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement the "Special Forest Planting to Protect Ecological Environment at Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien Hue Province" project. This project supports the government's 1 billion tree planting initiative and the goal of planting 30 million trees in line with the XI National Congress of the Youth Union and the "Million Green Trees – For a Green Vietnam" program. In 2023, Vietnam Airlines also organized the launch ceremony of the "For a Green Vietnam" forest planting campaign in Hòa Bình, planting 10,000 trees. In Hà Tĩnh, over 3,000 green lim trees were planted at the Ngàn Phố Protection Forest. In addition to forest greening, Vietnam Airlines has implemented various measures to reduce net emissions, including becoming the first airline in Vietnam to test sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on several flights, optimizing fuel usage per flight, upgrading its fleet with engines that reduce emissions, noise, and plastic waste, and promoting the circular economy. These efforts are part of Vietnam Airlines' shared goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Receiving the "Sustainable Idea" award is a recognition of Vietnam Airlines' efforts to create sustainable values not only in aviation but also for the community and the environment. In the future, the airline is committed to continuing its investment in innovative initiatives, implementing sustainable development solutions, and expanding cooperation with partners to contribute to a green Vietnam.
