What is free checked baggage?
Free checked baggage means a suitcase, bag or piece that is shipped in the aircraft's baggage compartment and is free of charge. Passengers can purchase additional checked baggage if they need more baggage than the free allowance.
If you have a ticket, you can access Manage Booking to check eligible baggage standards.
Regulations on free checked baggage by itinerary
Free checked baggage on Vietnam Airlines flights should be within the following size and weight:
- Maximum three dimensions (length x width x height) of a checked baggage piece do not exceed 158cm.
- Please refer to the weight and number of pieces of free checked baggage per adult and child from 2 to 12 years old according to the itinerary information below or use the Baggage Lookup feature.
Regulations on free checked baggage apply to routes between Southeast Asian Countries:
- Business Class: 1 piece of 32kg
- Premium Economy Class: 1 piece of 23kg
- Economy Class: 1 piece of 23kg
Regulations on free checked baggage apply to itineraries between Vietnam and Hong Kong/China/Taiwan/South Korea:
- Business Class: 2 pieces, 32kg each
- Premium Economy Class: 2 pieces, 23kg each
- Economy Class: 1 piece of 23kg
Regulations on free checked baggage apply to itineraries from/to Australia (except for itineraries from Japan to Australia) or European countries (except for Russia):
- Business Class: 2 pieces, 32kg each
- Premium Economy Class: 2 pieces, 23kg each
- Economy Class: 1 piece of 23kg
For tickets issued/reissued before 29 April 2026, passengers are advised of the following free checked baggage allowance:
- Regulations on free checked baggage apply to itineraries between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City and Tokyo (Haneda and Narita)/Osaka:
- Business Class: 2 pieces, 32kg each
- Premium Economy Class: 2 pieces, 23kg each
- Economy Class: 2 pieces, 23kg each
- Regulations on free checked baggage apply to itineraries between Hanoi and Nagoya:
- For tickets issued/exchanged from June 1, 2025 and departing between March 29, 2026 and Octorber 24, 2026:
- Business Class: 2 pieces, 32kg each
- Premium Economy Class: 2 pieces, 23kg each
- Economy Class: 2 pieces, 23kg each
- For tickets issued/changed and with departures outside the above given period:
- Business Class: 1 piece of 32kg
- Premium Economy Class: 1 piece of 23kg
- Economy Class: 1 piece of 23kg
- Regulations on free checked baggage apply to itineraries between Ho Chi Minh City and Fukuoka/Nagoya, between Hanoi and Fukuoka, and between Da Nang and Tokyo (Narita)/Osaka:

For tickets issued/reissued from 29 April 2026, passengers are advised of the following free checked baggage allowance:

- Business Class: 1 piece up to 32 kg
- Premium Economy: 1 piece up to 23 kg
- Economy Class: 1 piece up to 23 kg
- Routes between Hanoi and Osaka/Nagoya; Ho Chi Minh City and Osaka:
- For segments operated by A320/A321 aircraft:
- Business Class: 1 piece of 32kg
- Premium Economy Class: 1 piece of 23kg
- Economy Class: 1 pieces of 23kg
- For segments operated by B787/A350 aircraft:
- Business Class: 2 pieces, 32kg each
- Premium Economy Class: 2 pieces, 23kg each

In case a passenger stops for more than 24 hours, a free checked baggage allowance applies to each leg of the itinerary.
In case passengers connect flights for less than 24 hours, the free checked baggage allowance for the entire itinerary is as follows.

- Itineraries with legs between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City and Tokyo (Narita, Haneda)/Osaka:
- Business Class: 2 pieces, 32kg each

- Itineraries with legs between Hanoi and Nagoya:
- For tickets issued/exchanged from June 1, 2025 and departing between January 1, 2026 and March 28, 2026:

- For tickets issued/changed and with departures outside the above given period:

Notes:
- For itineraries operated by Vietnam Airlines:
- The free checked baggage may vary depending on the itinerary and Fare type. For more details, passengers can refer to the Fare Types and Rules section.
- If the checked baggage exceeds the weight and size standards, passengers will be required to repack or pay for excess baggage at the airport or will be required to transport baggage as cargo.
- In some periods, the checked baggage regulations can be subject to change, depending on the operating situation.

- For itineraries involving other airlines, the free baggage allowance may vary depending on the itinerary and the operating airline's policies.

Free checked baggage for infants
Checked baggage pieces for children under-2-year-old children (not seated separately) are free of charge:
From/To the Americas: 1 piece, with a maximum weight of 23kg (total 3 dimensions do not exceed 115cm) and one foldable stroller.
Other itineraries: 1 piece up to 10kg (total 3 dimensions do not exceed 115cm) and one foldable stroller (this applies only to tickets with free baggage standards).
