Can Tho Airport, also known as Tra Noc Airport, was built in the 1960s and served as an air force base before 1975. After national reunification, the airport was transferred to the Ministry of Defense for management.
In 2005, Can Tho Airport was officially included in the renovation and upgrade project to become Can Tho International Airport, serving the goal of economic development and connecting the Mekong Delta region with the whole country and internationally. After two phases of infrastructure upgrades, the airport was inaugurated on January 1, 2011, marking an important transformation when officially operating modern civil flights.
