Ba Den Temple Tay Ninh was built in 1763 by Zen Master Dao Trung (Thiền sư Đạo Trung). Initially, it was just a small thatched hut established to serve the religious needs of local people. The temple has undergone many renovations, particularly in 1930 and 1990 with upgrades to many new architectural components.
Legend has it that Ba Den Temple is dedicated to Linh Son Thanh Mau (Ba Den) - a deity associated with the legend of a young woman named Den who sacrificed herself on this mountain. Therefore, local people believe that Ba Den Temple is very sacred.
With over 260 years of history, Ba Den Temple has become an indispensable part of the spiritual life of Tay Ninh people. This is not only a place of worship but also a cultural center and meeting point for Buddhists from all over the country, especially during major festivals such as Ba's Festival (lễ Vía Bà) and Vu Lan Festival (lễ Vu Lan), helping to maintain and promote traditional cultural and religious values.
Ba Den Temple Tay Ninh is also where many community activities are organized such as charity work, memorial ceremonies, and offering rituals. These activities both express reverence and gratitude to ancestors and deities, and serve as occasions to strengthen community solidarity.
