Hanoi, January 24th, 2017 – According to Center for aviation (CAPA), Vietnam Airlines becomes only the fourth airline in Southeast Asia with over 20 million annual passengers, joining Malaysia AirAsia, Lion Air and Garuda Indonesia.
In 2016 Vietnam Airlines surpassed both Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways to become the second largest Southeast Asian full service airline after Garuda, with 20.6 million annual passengers, 19% growth in passenger traffic, based on passenger traffic.
Of Southeast Asia’s flag carriers, Vietnam Airlines has had the fastest passenger growth in recent years. Vietnam Airlines has had double-digit passenger growth in five of the past seven years.
In early January 2017, Vietnam Airlines was honored at the prestigious awards ceremony in both domestic and overseas including: Golden Brand award at "Most popular Vietnamese brand in 2016" by Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper; Most favourite carrier by the audience of Ho Chi Minh television (HTV) and Top 10 ASEAN enterprises operating effectively in China by China-ASEAN Business Council (CABC).
