VIETNAM AIRLINES ENHANCE SECURITY FOR OUR OPERATIONS IN EUROPE IN THE WAKE OF THE TWIN EXPLOSIONS IN BELGIUM ON MARCH 22, 2016
Hanoi, March 22, 2016 – In the wake of the twin explosions on March 22 in Belgium, Vietnam Airlines would like to make an announcement that at present, our flights from and to Europe will be operated as usual without any changes in the schedule.
Vietnam Airlines have urgently adopted measures to ensure ultimate security and safety for our operations in Europe with a view to safeguarding human lives and properties. The airline has raised the security level of our flights in Europe to the highest. Measures include requesting Vietnam Airlines branches to coordinate with local authorities and airport security forces; tightening control and examination of travel documents, baggage and other goods to identify any abnormalities before allowing on board for all flights to and from Europe and updating information on frequent and regular basis for timing responses. Vietnam Airlines, at the same time have provided support for passengers on connected flights from/to Belgium and all others travelling on our flights between Vietnam and Europe.
At present, security in all European airports has been tightened. As a result, it might take longer to go through security check at airports. The examination will also be more thorough. Vietnam Airlines recommend that passengers closely follow the news on public media, give more time for check-in procedures at airports, bring sufficient and appropriate travel documents needed for air travel and comply with all security regulations. Passengers, who would like to check information on flights to/from Europe, may contact Vietnam Airlines branches throughout Europe as provided below.
To support our passengers, from now until March 31, 2016, Vietnam Airlines will refund, cancel and change tickets free of charge. Passengers are exempt from paying the surplus due to changing ticket classes or reroute for all confirmed tickets on flights operated by Vietnam Airlines between Vietnam and Europe. Passengers only pay the additional charges incurred by the changes in routes on codeshare airliners. Tickets eligible for being changed should have the flying date no later than March 31, 2016 and new departure date will be no later than April 30, 2016.
Based on what happens on the ground, Vietnam Airlines will regularly update information on our operation and support policies offered to passengers travelling on these affected flights in the coming announcements.
