Located by Lam river and surrounded by towering mountains and the open sea, Vinh City is an enviable spot of beauty, tranquility and cultural and historical richness, through its numerous sites and vestiges. Under the gleaming twilight, Vinh stands out like a perfect picture that wins over so many tourists.
Cua Lo Beach: Cua Lo is the finest beach of Vinh, whose coastline stretches 12km and is wrapped in velvety white sand, sapphire blue sea and gentle ripples. Travelers to Cua Lo in summertime may take a swim to ward off their worldly burdens. At night, it is such a pleasure to sit idly on the beach to listen to the mutter and whispers of the far-off sea.
Lam River: Lam River is by and large synonymous with Nghe An. The sash-like flow that witnessed heroic deeds crosses the city and has been heavily praised in poetry, music and fine arts. Down there, the river is plied with lush green paddy fields, towering mountains and a variety of historical sites associated with dominant figures of our nation, namely Mai Hac De, Phan Boi Chau or Nguyen Du...
Emperor Quang Trung Temple: Anyone with an interest in religious tours definitely seeks after Emperor Quang Trung Temple, situated atop Dung Quyet Mountain. Trailing 1km around the mountain and climbing up 81 stairs, pilgrims will see the temple in the recess of a dreamlike pine forest.
Vinh and Nghe An in general are reputed for rustic treats, which produce recognizable taste that keep travelers going after again and again, such as soupy porridge, Vietnamese rice crepes, bèo cakes, wet cakes, fried spring rolls, grilled pork rolls or ngào cakes…
In particular, eel dishes are the signature essence of Vinh: eel porridge, eel vermicelli, grilled eel pipes, braised eels with lesser galangal and fermented rice, braised eels with coconut juice… The porridge is prepared using freshly caught and soft eels to produce dense and fine broth, which tastes sweet and a bit spicy at the first bite. On chilly wintry days, it is absolutely recommended that people have a bowl of hot eel soup and swoop it up.
There is another bucolic and unique delicacy called Thanh Chuong “nhút”. It is salted jackfruit fiber served with steamed rice. The fiber is crunchy and blends so well with the spicy, salty, sweet and sour tastes unique to Nghe An.
