Two special flights carry donated organs to two pediatric patients

On the remaining leg, on flight VN1541 from Hanoi to Hue, the medical team from Cho Ray Hospital carried one organ box. Immediately after the aircraft landed in Hue, the organ was handed over to be transferred to Hue Central Hospital, where doctors received it and prepared for the transplant surgery. 

For each donated organ, the time from harvesting to transplantation is always meticulously calculated. A transport journey, therefore, needs to be not only fast but also precise at every stage: from preservation, procedures, and boarding the organ onto the aircraft, to reception and handover at the destination. The coordination among medical teams, airports, ground handling units, and the airline becomes a vital link to shorten the duration of the journey.

Behind the compact preservation boxes brought onto the aircraft is the anticipation of patients and their families. As the flight lands on schedule and the organ is handed directly to the medical team, a new opportunity for treatment is carried forward.

Since 2018, the airline has collaborated with the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation to support the transport of tissues and organs on flights. Over nearly eight years, Vietnam Airlines has operated more than 50 special flights carrying medical teams and around 20 flights directly transporting tissues and organs for transplants at various hospitals nationwide.

For Vietnam Airlines, those flights are not merely operational tasks. They also represent a partnership with the medical sector during critical moments, where every flight leg is connected by hope, and every safe landing is another step bringing patients closer to a chance at a healthy life.
