Vietnam Airlines and MoMo Continue “Mending the Forest with Leaves,” Aiming to Restore 64 Hectares of Natural Forest

Starting from June 15, Vietnam Airlines and MoMo officially launched the 2026 “Mending the Forest with Leaves” programme, aiming to restore 64 hectares of natural forest in Sơn La and Phú Thọ provinces. This is one of the environmental initiatives implemented under the Green Alliance for Sustainable Development, launched by Vietnam Airlines.

In 2026, the “Mending the Forest with Leaves” programme continues to be jointly carried out by Vietnam Airlines, MoMo and the People and Nature Reconciliation Centre (PanNature), with the goal of mobilising social resources for natural forest restoration in areas of high biodiversity value.

During the programme period, every successful purchase of a Vietnam Airlines ticket via the MoMo app will contribute VND 5,000 to natural forest restoration efforts. The funds raised will be used to plant and care for approximately 38,400 native trees in biodiversity-rich areas in northern Vietnam.

This year’s programme targets the restoration of around 64 hectares of natural forest in Sơn La and Phú Thọ. Of this, approximately 34 hectares will be restored in Xuân Nha (Sơn La), an area within a special-use forest zone of high conservation value; 10 hectares in Vân Hồ (Sơn La), considered an important habitat for the northern white-cheeked gibbon; and around 20 hectares in Nà Phòn (Phú Thọ), an upstream forest area that plays a vital role in protecting water sources and maintaining ecological connectivity.

The selected tree species include dổi, black canarium, re, gụ hương and lát hoa, among others. These are all native species well suited to local natural conditions, helping restore forest ecosystems and create sustainable habitats for flora and fauna.

According to the plan, on-site tree planting activities will be jointly carried out by Vietnam Airlines, MoMo and PanNature on July 24, in celebration of International Nature Conservation Day.

A distinctive feature of “Mending the Forest with Leaves” lies in its approach to mobilising community resources through everyday consumer activities. Instead of relying solely on traditional donation methods, each flight ticket purchase can become a direct contribution to the environment. This model helps connect businesses, technology platforms and users around a shared goal of restoring natural ecosystems.

After two years of implementation, the programme has recorded nearly 95,000 contributions from the community, helping plant around 95,000 trees and restore 153 hectares of forest in the northwestern region of Vietnam. In 2025 alone, nearly 90,000 Vietnam Airlines ticket purchases on the MoMo app helped raise VND 450 million for natural forest restoration activities. In addition, around 4,000 voluntary contributions from users generated a further VND 150 million for the programme.

Beyond increasing green coverage, the project also pursues long-term goals of supporting natural forest regeneration, conserving biodiversity, restoring habitats for wildlife, and enhancing ecosystem resilience in the face of climate change.

“Mending the Forest with Leaves” is one of the environmental initiatives implemented under the Green Alliance for Sustainable Development, launched by Vietnam Airlines in April 2026. The Green Alliance is built on a voluntary partnership model aimed at connecting regulators, businesses, organisations and partners both domestically and internationally to implement sustainable development initiatives across the three ESG pillars — Environmental, Social and Governance — with Vietnam Airlines serving as the coordinating and connecting force.

The Alliance focuses not only on emissions reduction and environmental protection solutions, but also on improving community well-being, promoting social values, and advancing sustainable governance standards. If “Mending the Forest with Leaves” represents efforts under the environmental pillar, Vietnam Airlines and its Green Alliance partners had previously launched the “Dream Journey 2026” programme, which provided 100 underprivileged children with opportunities for experience, learning and skills development.

Through the support and partnership of its stakeholders, Vietnam Airlines is steadily turning its sustainable development commitments into concrete action — from environmental protection and ecosystem restoration to community support and the creation of positive social value.
