Environment Vietnam Airlines Joins National Launch Ceremony for Vietnam Sea and Island Week 02/06/2023 As part of the National Launch Ceremony aimed at raising awareness about the significance of marine resources and the environment, and in response to the 2023 Month of Action for the Environment, the youth delegation of Vietnam Airlines actively participated in planting 3,000 green ironwood trees at the Ngàn Pho River Protection Forest in Ha Tinh Province. This meaningful activity celebrates both the 5th anniversary of the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises and the 30th anniversary of the National Flag Carrier. It is also part of a long-term, connected strategy that includes environmental protection initiatives carried out by the airline over the years. Vietnam Airlines Youth Union participates in tree planting for the National Launch of Vietnam Sea and Island Week and the Month of Action for the Environment, supporting World Oceans Day and World Environment Day 2023. In recent years, Vietnam Airlines has continuously improved its flight operations to reduce fuel consumption, upgraded to next-generation aircraft for higher fuel efficiency, and implemented voluntary green tree-planting campaigns. In 2023, the airline introduced a series of impactful environmental initiatives such as: Launching a digital newspaper reading platform, saving 230 million tons of paper-based fuel annually; Recovering and redistributing 3 million dry food items and single-use utensils in just three months; Replacing conventional materials with eco-friendly alternatives, reducing 62.8 million plastic bags annually used on aircraft. In addition, Vietnam Airlines became a pioneer partner of VietHarvest, an organization rescuing surplus airline meals that are safe and unused after flights. These meals are donated to underprivileged individuals and organizations, aiming to reduce waste, combat food insecurity, and foster a sustainable consumption culture in Vietnam. Sustainable management solutions are needed to tackle the changing state of the ocean due to pollution, climate change, and acidification. As the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines places social and environmental responsibility at the heart of its operations, aligning with the Government’s Net Zero emissions goal by 2050.
