From the organ donation case on August 20, medical teams received a liver, a heart, and two corneas for transport to hospitals in Hanoi and Hue. Among these, the liver and one cornea were transported aboard flight VN218 before being transferred to 108 Military Central Hospital and Military Hospital 103.

On the night of August 20, the liver was immediately delivered to 108 Military Central Hospital for transplantation, while the cornea was transferred to Military Hospital 103. According to updates from the hospitals, the post-transplant patients remain under close monitoring and are showing positive progress.

Previously, Vietnam Airlines also coordinated the transport of two donated kidneys from Bai Chay Hospital (Quang Ninh Province) to Ho Chi Minh City and Hue, enabling transplant surgeries for two pediatric patients at Children's Hospital 2 and Hue Central Hospital.

This is not the first time Vietnam Airlines flights have been adjusted to wait for donated tissues and organs. On two previous flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue and Hanoi, departure times were delayed by nearly 30 minutes to wait for medical teams to complete organ procurement and board the aircraft. Upon landing, the teams were given priority disembarkation to travel immediately to hospitals for same-day transplant surgeries.

Air transport of tissues and organs requires seamless coordination among medical facilities, the National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation, the airline, airport authorities, and relevant agencies. Each type of tissue or organ carries strict time constraints and preservation conditions; thus, any delay at any stage can directly impact the transplant schedule.

Since 2018, Vietnam Airlines has assisted in transporting tissues, organs, and medical teams across numerous domestic routes. In 2025 alone, the carrier facilitated 26 flights, aiding in the coordination of over 31 tissues and organs across key routes such as Hanoi, Hue, and Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa. Furthermore, since the beginning of 2026, Vietnam Airlines has supported the timely transport for 15 transplant cases. In such critical situations, the airline consistently prioritizes essential procedures and stands ready to adjust operational plans to align with the medical teams' timelines.

Vietnam Airlines affirmed that it will continue working alongside the National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation, hospitals, airport authorities, and related units whenever air transport of tissues and organs is required, ensuring donated organs reach receiving facilities within the critical timeframe for life-saving surgeries.
