Warmth from Vietnam Airlines on the Journey to the Special Olympics

03/07/2023

On the evening of June 17, the 16th Special Olympics World Games—the largest global sporting event for athletes with intellectual and multiple disabilities—officially opened in Berlin, Germany. The event welcomed around 7,000 athletes from 190 countries and territories.

The Special Olympics, recognized by the International Olympic Committee, spans 26 sports disciplines across various venues in Berlin. Approximately 300,000 spectators are expected to attend. Athlete performances were evaluated to ensure fair and balanced competition levels across events.

Representing Vietnam is the Special Olympics Vietnam delegation, including over 10 members, among them 6 athletes. They competed in three sports: athletics, swimming, and bocce.

The Vietnamese team proudly celebrates their achievements at the Special Olympics.

Understanding the significance of this event not only for the nation's sporting image but also for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, Vietnam Airlines supported the athletes by sponsoring their international airfare. The event provides these individuals with opportunities for recognition, increased confidence, and deeper participation in society.

The flight crew, including the captain and cabin attendants, who were honored to accompany the team to and from the Games, extended extra care and hospitality to the delegation throughout the journey.

In a thank-you letter shared on the fan page of the Vietnam Paralympic Community, the delegation expressed their deepest gratitude to Vietnam Airlines.

As part of its 2023 community mission and commitment to inclusivity, sponsoring the delegation to the Special Olympics is one of many Vietnam Airlines initiatives to spread compassion and support meaningful social causes. The airline remains steadfast in its mission to accompany and empower Vietnamese representatives as they make their mark on the global stage.
