On May 27, 2024, Vietnam Airlines operated its first commercial flight using SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) from Singapore to Hanoi. Building on this success, on June 5, 2025, in celebration of World Environment Day, the airline simultaneously operated six domestic flights using SAF, including routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang. This marked the first time in Vietnam that SAF was applied simultaneously across both international and domestic networks, signifying a transition from pilot implementation to practical application in sustainable aviation operations.
Beyond its focus on environmental sustainability, Vietnam Airlines actively integrates social and governance criteria into all its operations. The airline maintains comprehensive employee benefits and career development policies, strengthens internal training, promotes gender equality, and ensures the rights of diverse labor groups.
In addition, its social responsibility programs—from community support to blood donation and relief activities—remain a core part of its community commitment. One standout initiative is the “Dream Trip 2025” program, which brought unforgettable experiences to 80 disadvantaged children in Da Nang. More than just a charitable activity, “Dream Trip” serves as a spiritual bridge between the airline and the community, inspiring hope and aspirations for a better life among those less fortunate.
To protect the environment and restore ecosystems, Vietnam Airlines and MoMo launched the “Leaf Contribution to Prevent Deforestation” campaign in June 2024, aiming for a greener and more sustainable Vietnam. The campaign focuses on restoring 50 hectares of forest in the Northwest region to prevent degradation and safeguard natural resources for future generations, continuing to spread positive values. In September 2024, Vietnam Airlines launched the “Fly Light to Con Dao” campaign in collaboration with VASC and the People’s Committee of Con Dao District.
The ESG Green Vietnam 2025 Awards are organized by specialized agencies and evaluated by independent domestic and international experts. The assessment is based on strict criteria, including emission reduction effectiveness, quality of ESG disclosures, social impact, and adaptability to environmental changes. In the logistics sector, sustainable supply chain management, eco-friendly operational technology, and ESG risk governance are significant challenges that not all businesses can meet.
Under its development strategy through 2030, the airline continues to target improvements in its internal ESG index, gradually adopting international-standard measurement and management tools, and aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 in alignment with national goals.
