Ho Chi Minh City, October 22, 2024 – Vietnam Airlines and Garuda Indonesia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand the strategic partnership between the two national airlines.
The MoU seeks to strengthen and expand cooperation, focusing on enhancing the passenger and airfreight transportation capabilities between Vietnam and Indonesia.
Both airlines aim to increase cooperation through joint marketing campaigns, expand codeshare agreements, joint venture and explore services such as aircraft leasing, ground services, technical maintenance and cargo operations.
This cooperation will see both airlines enhancing passenger experience, meet the growing demand for transportation between the two countries, and foster sustainable development in the aviation industry.
Le Hong Ha, President and CEO of Vietnam Airlines, stated: “We are delighted to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with Garuda Indonesia. This partnership not only strengthens the position of both national carriers but also facilitates the provision of high-quality services for our passengers traveling between Vietnam and Indonesia. We believe this will bring significant benefits to our passengers and further promote trade and cultural exchanges between the two nations.”
Irfan Setiaputra, President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, said: “It is my great pleasure to announce the exciting new commercial collaboration between Garuda Indonesia and Vietnam Airlines. This strategic partnership marks an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and enhancing travel experiences for our passengers across Southeast Asia. As two of the leading airlines in the region, Garuda Indonesia and Vietnam Airlines share a common vision: to provide world-class service, greater convenience, and expanded travel options for our customers. By leveraging our combined networks, this partnership will allow passengers more seamless access to key destinations across Indonesia, Vietnam, and beyond, fostering greater tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. This partnership will not only enhance connectivity but also reinforce both airlines' positions in the global aviation market”.
For many years, Indonesia has been recognized as the largest tourism market in Southeast Asia, with the fourth largest population in the world. Indonesia is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, from famous destinations such as Bali and Lombok to natural wonders such as Sumatra rainforest and Jav volcanos. These destinations not only attract tourists with their untouched beauty but also offer unique cultural and adventurous experiences, making Indonesia one of the top tourist destinations in the region and the world.
On the other hand, Vietnam is also emerging as a vibrant and fast-growing tourist destination, attracting international visitors with its diverse natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage. From the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ha Long Bay in the North, to the ancient town of Hoi An in the Central region, and the dynamic atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City in the South, Vietnam offers tourists a wide range of travel experience.
The strategic partnership between Vietnam Airlines and Garuda Indonesia is expected not only to promote the growth of the aviation and tourism industries in both countries but also to strengthen the economic and cultural ties, laying a solid foundation for further developments in the future.
