Customers who have purchased airline tickets and ancillary services on the Vietnam Airlines website or mobile application with a 10% VAT rate on July 1, 2024 will receive a 2% tax difference refund to the bank account used for the purchase. Vietnam Airlines will also send an adjusted VAT invoice to the email registered for your ticket and service purchase.

The reason our online system has not yet updated the 8% tax rate on July 1, 2024, is that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) requires time to complete updating the new VAT regulations of Vietnam in global reservation and ticketing systems.

According to IATA regulations, the national airline will act on behalf of all local airlines to provide documents from the authorities related to VAT and airport fees to IATA. Typically, IATA's processing time is one working day from receipt of the official document from the local authorities.

Vietnam Airlines has sent a dispatch from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to IATA, notifying them of Vietnam's new regulations regarding VAT and airport fees. We have also requested IATA Vietnam to coordinate with the regional IATA office in Singapore to support the document processing. However, due to the holiday, IATA's offices were unable to process the document and update the tax rate in the global reservation and ticketing systems in time.

Vietnam Airlines sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this situation. The system is expected to correctly update the VAT rate to 8% by the evening of July 1, 2024.
