Environment Vietnam Airlines Goes Green on World Environment Day: SAF Flights Simultaneously Take Off Across Vietnam 05/06/2025 In conjunction with this event, Vietnam Airlines partnered with Xanh SM to launch the program “Green Journey: From Ground to Sky.” Accordingly, passengers on SAF-powered flights will receive discount codes from Xanh SM for using their electric vehicles to travel to Da Nang airport for departure or from Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports to downtown after their flights—offering a seamless green travel experience throughout the journey. Earlier, on May 27, 2024, the airline became the first Vietnamese carrier to operate a commercial flight using SAF on the Singapore–Hanoi route. The deployment of SAF on domestic routes this time is a testament to Vietnam Airlines’ determination to realize Vietnam’s net-zero emissions target, in alignment with sustainable development standards recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The production and supply processes were carried out in accordance with strict safety, efficiency, and environmental standards. Mr. Đinh Văn Tuấn, Deputy CEO of Vietnam Airlines, shared: “Vietnam Airlines is proud to be the first Vietnamese airline to adopt SAF—a green fuel that can reduce up to 80% of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifecycle. This is not only a technological leap but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to accompany Vietnam in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.” Vietnam Airlines is gradually expanding its use of SAF on both domestic and international routes. At the same time, the airline is working to develop local SAF supply chains in Vietnam to reduce operational costs and enhance self-reliance. It is also strengthening international partnerships to build a green supply chain, ensure sustainable fuel supply, and promote emission-reduction initiatives throughout the entire value chain. Through this series of activities, Vietnam Airlines aims to spread the message “Taking Off for a Green Future” and calls on the community to join hands in acting for a sustainable planet. (Photo: VNA) In addition, Vietnam Airlines is accelerating digital transformation and applying technologies to monitor and optimize emissions right from the operational stage. This is a vital part of the airline’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy, aiming toward sustainable development and enhancing resilience for the future. Through these initiatives, Vietnam Airlines hopes to widely promote the message “Taking Off for a Green Future” and rally collective action toward a sustainable planet. Its ESG strategy serves as a compass, guiding Vietnam Airlines to balance economic growth, social responsibility, and environmental protection—further affirming the national carrier’s pioneering role on the path to sustainable development.
