Free carry-on baggage allowance

Carry-on baggage for children under two years old should not exceed 3kg (including food, milk, and nappy) and one compact stroller/cradle that fits inside an aircraft baggage compartment. If carry-on baggage compartments are out of place, strollers/cradles are transported as checked baggage (free of charge).

Vietnam Airlines will require you to check in the baggage.

You should check in items with odors and note the following conditions:

1. Fish sauces and other odorous liquids: 

• Each passenger is only allowed to carry a maximum of 03 liters or 03 kg of sauce/fish sauce or other odorous liquids;
• Should be stored in plastic bottles, their caps should be tightly closed and each bottle should be wrapped with tape. The amount of liquid in each bottle does not exceed 95% of the bottle volume. 
• Bottles must be placed in foam containers sealed with tape and securely packaged to avoid crushing or breaking during loading and transportation.

2. Durians and other odorous items:

• Each passenger is only allowed to carry a maximum of 05 kg of durian or other odorous items;
• Must be sealed with plastic film before being packed in a container or bag, ensuring that the smell shall not release to other baggage.

1. Vietnam Domestic Routes

Vietnam Airlines does not limit the volume of liquids as long as they satisfy Vietnam Airlines' carry-on baggage regulations (except for alcoholic beverages, which have separate regulations).

2. International travel regulations

Each passenger is allowed to carry no more than 01 liter of liquid, spray, or gel; each bottle/jar/container must not exceed 100ml and must be sealed (except for prescription medicine and milk, food for infants when accompanied by infants).

Portable electronic devices (PEDs) with batteries and portable power banks including: 

• Electronic medical devices for treatment; 
• Electronic devices for personal needs such as wristwatches, calculators, cameras, mobile phones, laptops, camcorders, etc.

With regards to tickets issued/exchanged before May 05, 2025:

On Vietnam domestic routes:

• For Business: 02 pieces of baggage and 01 accessory;
• For Economy class and Premium Economy classes: 01 piece of baggage and 01 accessory.

On international routes:

• For Business and Premium Economy classes: 02 pieces of baggage and 01 accessory;
• For Economy class: 01 piece of baggage and 01 accessory.

With regards to tickets issued/exchanged on/after May 05, 2025:

For itineraries from/to Europe, Oceania, and America:

• Business and Premium Economy Class: 02 pieces of baggage and 01 accessory;
• Economy Class: 01 piece of baggage and 01 accessory.

For other itineraries:

• Business Class: 02 pieces of baggage and 01 accessory;
• Premium Economy and Economy Class: 01 piece of baggage and 01 accessory.

Items prohibited in carry-on baggage but allowed in checked baggage include: 

• Sharp objects, weapons, or weapon-like items such as knives, swords, multi-function knives, darts, scissors, axes, etc. 
• Firearms, parts of firearms, ammunitions, stun guns, imitation firearms, toy guns, or weapon-like toys/items. However, to get these items checked in, passengers are required to obtain a permit from a competent authority. 
• Tools or things that can cause injuries such as crowbars, shovels, drills/screwdrivers, blow torches, blades or shafts longer than 6 cm, wrenches, spanners, and pliers longer than 10cm in total length, etc. - Bats (baseball, billiards), hockey sticks, golf clubs, martial-art items, batons, self-defense sprays (pepper), etc.

Prohibited items for carriage in carry-on and checked baggage include: 

• Explosives and items containing explosives.
• Flammable substances in the form of gases, liquids, or solids.
• Oxidizers, organic peroxides, and related items.
• Corrosives, infectious or toxic substances, and related items.
• Radioactive materials, magnetic contaminants.
• Compressed gases, flammable substances.
• Organic detergents.

Furthermore, Vietnam Airlines does not transport certain items due to their weight, size, or characteristics.

You may carry alcoholic drinks in your carry-on or checked baggage, subject to the following conditions:

• Alcoholic drinks with no more than 24% alcohol concentration: no restrictions.
• Drinks with an alcohol concentration from over 24% to 70% must be stored in the manufacturer's container, with seals and labels; the container does not exceed 5 liters, and each passenger shall carry no more than 5 liters (in both carry-on and checked baggage).
• Drinks with alcohol concentration above 70%: prohibited for transportation.
