Portable electronic devices (with battery and power bank)

Portable electronic devices (PEDs) with batteries and portable power banks including: electronic medical equipment for passenger treatment, electronic devices for personal needs such as wristwatches, calculator, cameras, mobile phones, laptops, camcorders, etc.

Portable electronic devices are permitted to be carried in checked baggage and/or carry-on baggage with the following conditions:

Electronic devices with batteries attached

  • Electronic devices with an Lithium metallic/alloy batteries with less than 2g of Lithium or Lithium ion batteries with capacity of no more than 100Wh. Each passenger can carry up to 15 electronic medical devices of this type (including carry-on and checked baggage).
  • Electronic medical devices are permitted to be carried in carry-on or checked baggage if they use Lithium metal/alloy batteries between 2g and 8g of Lithium or Lithium ion batteries with a capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh.
  • Electronic devices with wet-cell batteries – non-spillable, nonabsorbable batteries, can be carried in carry-on or checked baggage provided that: The batteries have a voltage of less than 12V, capacity of less than 100Wh, and must comply with some other special provisions of temperature, pressure tolerance, etc.
  • Electronic devices containing fuel batteries should only be carried in carry-on baggage and must not be charged during the flight.

The device's power bank

  • Removable batteries/rechargeable power banks of all types are carried only in carry-on baggage.
  • Power banks which are dry batteries, nickel metallic hydride batteries, Lithium metallic/alloy batteries containing less than 2g of Lithium or Lithium ion with a capacity of less than 100Wh. Each passenger can carry up to 10 power banks of this type.
  • Power banks which are Lithium metallic/alloy Lithium batteries containing between 2g and 8g Lithium or Lithium ion with a capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh. Each passenger can carry up to 02 power banks of this type.
  • Wet-cell and non-spillable batteries have a voltage of less than 12V, capacity of less than 100Wh, and must comply with some other special provisions of temperature, pressure tolerance, etc. Each passenger can carry up to 02 power banks of this type.
  • Fuel power banks containing flammable liquids, corrosives, flammable liquefied gases and reactants when exposed to water or hydrogen gas in metal hydride must be carried in carry-on baggage and not be charged during flight. Each passenger can carry up to 02 power banks of this type.

General notes

  • Equipment with batteries must be protected from unintended activation; or batteries must be disconnected and exposed terminals must be insulated.
  • The battery must be separately protected to prevent activation during transport by re-packing, storing in a separate case/bag or taping to insulate the exposed terminals.
  • Before a flight, passengers should contact Vietnam Airlines to understand the specific rules for batteries and devices with batteries.
