1. Where is Ba Trai Dao Beach?
Ba Trai Dao Beach, also known as Three Peach Beach, is located in Lan Ha Bay, approximately 22 kilometers southeast of Cat Ba Island in Quang Ninh Province. This pristine beach is nestled among three small limestone islets that resemble peaches, giving the area its name. Lan Ha Bay is situated to the east of the more famous Halong Bay, offering a quieter and less touristy alternative for travelers seeking tranquility and natural beauty.
The beach is known for its crescent-shaped shoreline, crystal-clear waters, and soft white sand, making it an ideal spot for swimming, kayaking, and sunbathing. Due to tidal movements, the beach is only accessible for a few hours each day, adding to its untouched charm. Visitors can reach Ba Trai Dao Beach by taking a cruise from Halong Bay or Cat Ba Island, with some tours offering kayaking excursions to explore the surrounding islets and caves
2. The Legends of Ba Trai Dao Beach
Like many mystical places in Vietnam, Ba Trai Dao Beach is surrounded by fascinating legends that add to its charm. The first theory behind the name comes from the beach’s natural topography. Surrounding the beach are three small limestone mountains, each rising about 23 meters high. From a distance, these rocky formations resemble three giant peaches resting gently on the sea, creating a unique and memorable landscape that gives the beach its name.
The second, more romantic legend tells the story of a fairy and a poor fisherman. According to folklore, a fairy from the heavens fell in love with a kind-hearted fisherman living by the sea. She stole three peaches from the heavens and brought them to Earth, hoping the magical fruit would grant him immortality so they could be together forever.
However, the Jade Emperor discovered her act and, in a fit of rage, turned the three peaches into stone mountains - forever separating the two lovers. These three peaks still stand today, marking a love story that was never allowed to blossom.
