Throughout its formation and development, Vietnam Airlines has defined its vision, mission, and core values as a responsible aviation group.
In recent years, social responsibility has become an essential trend among businesses and an integral part of sustainable development goals. There is a clear correlation between the sustainable development of society and the growth of businesses, encouraging enterprises to actively engage in social activities that create community value.
Corporate social responsibility is also seen as a strategy to enhance brand reputation, thereby attracting partners, investors, and employees.
From this foundation, many businesses around the world and in Vietnam have proactively built community programs, calling on customers and partners to participate in various fields such as healthcare, education, environment, and social welfare. Vietnam Airlines is a leading example.
Vietnam Airlines aspires to help create a better life, a more humane society, and a sustainably developing world.
For over a decade, Vietnam Airlines has sponsored and partnered with organizations such as Operation Smile, Facing The World, and Heartbeat Vietnam through activities like sponsoring air tickets for medical experts and volunteers—both domestic and international—to participate in cleft lip and palate surgeries, craniofacial surgeries, and heart surgeries for Vietnamese children; and donating Business Class tickets for charity auctions to raise surgical funds.
In 2023, the initiative evolved as Vietnam Airlines became the first and only airline in Vietnam to pioneer a Mileage Donation Project, calling on LotuSmiles members to donate frequent flyer miles in exchange for flight tickets that support travel needs of medical charity organizations both domestically and internationally. The ultimate goal is to support more people in need and to spread heartfelt humanitarian messages further across the community.
The first Mileage Donation campaign was launched in November 2022. With its meaningful humanitarian message, it successfully gathered 238,000 miles within just 58 minutes, converting them into 17 domestic flight tickets for medical professionals traveling from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Nghe An. These experts supported Operation Smile in a humanitarian surgical program, aiming to treat and bring smiles back to 100 children born with cleft lips and palates.
Following this success, in December 2022, within only 17 minutes of launching, the campaign collected 170,000 miles, funding tickets for two international medical experts from the UK and Australia to travel to Hanoi to perform charity surgeries on 20 cases of craniosynostosis (premature skull fusion).
In 2023, Vietnam Airlines launched a comprehensive mileage donation campaign for three medical organizations: Facing The World, Operation Smile, and Heartbeat Vietnam. The campaign concluded in September 2023 with an impressive 6,710,000 miles donated. The campaign’s noble goal was to support:
1,100 cleft lip and palate surgeries,
180 complex craniofacial cases, and
screening and heart surgeries for 35,000 children in underprivileged, remote areas.
Throughout its development, Vietnam Airlines has consistently upheld the vision and mission of being a responsible national airline. The airline has tirelessly pursued sustainable development, created a friendly work environment, valued employees as its most important asset, complied with environmental protection standards, and actively participated in community and social welfare activities.
Vietnam Airlines has collaborated with numerous organizations, businesses, and individuals both domestically and internationally to jointly fulfill its commitment to the community across various fields such as environment, healthcare, education, and social security.
The national airline firmly believes that the sustainable development of a business is not just about profit and revenue—but about the meaningful values it contributes to society. With practical actions, strong commitment, and a compassionate heart, Vietnam Airlines hopes to help build a better life, a more humane society, and a sustainably developed world.
