1. Historical And Cultural Significance of Vinh Moc Tunnels
Situated in Quang Tri Province, the Vinh Moc Tunnels represent one of Vietnam’s most significant underground wartime constructions. Developed between 1965 and 1967 in response to intense aerial bombardments, the tunnel network spans nearly 2 kilometers and is structured across three levels, each designed to serve distinct residential and strategic functions.
Throughout the war, this subterranean system operated as a concealed settlement where over 300 civilians lived, raised families, and supported revolutionary efforts. It also played a vital role in facilitating supply routes to Con Co Island. Today, the Vinh Moc Tunnels stand as a profound symbol of national resilience and are officially recognized as a Special National Historical Site.
