1. Brief Information on District 11
Often overlooked by tourists, District 11 is a deeply local and culturally rich area of Ho Chi Minh City. It captures the spirit of old Saigon through its traditional markets, street food culture, and close-knit communities.
District 11 was formed in 1976 as part of the post-reunification administrative restructuring of Ho Chi Minh City. Over the decades, it has transformed from a largely residential suburb into a thriving urban area with a strong community identity and growing commercial activity.
Covering an area of approximately 5.14 square kilometers, District 11 is home to around 190,000 residents. It features a mostly working-class population, with many families having lived here for generations. This has helped preserve the district’s distinct local character, filled with community traditions and daily rhythms. District 11 is surrounded by:
- District 6 to the west
- District 5 to the south
- District 10 to the east
- Tan Phu District to the north
District 11 is a neighborhood steeped in local life and cultural richness. Here’s what makes it unique:

Important Notice: Administrative Changes from July 1, 2025: Beginning July 1, 2025, District 11 will no longer exist as an administrative district in the form previously known.
The former 16 wards of District 11 will be merged into 4 new administrative wards:
- Hoa Binh Ward (merging Ward 5 + Ward 14, old District 11)
- Phu Tho Ward (merging Ward 11 + Ward 15 + part of Ward 8, old District 11)
- Binh Thoi Ward (merging Ward 3 + Ward 10 + part of Ward 8, old District 11)
- Minh Phung Ward (merging Ward 1 + Ward 7 + Ward 16, old District 11)
Each of these new wards will retain distinct local identities while benefiting from streamlined governance and public service improvements. The merged administrative unit will be renamed Phu Tho Ward, reflecting a unified identity and modernization effort for the area.
