Vietnam Airlines Successfully Organizes the 2024 Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Racing Tournament

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Racing Tournament was attended by representatives from the Hanoi People's Committee, Vietnam Airlines leadership, sponsors, athletes, and a large number of fans, creating a vibrant atmosphere at West Lake, Hanoi.

This year’s tournament attracted nearly 800 coaches and athletes from 40 territories, countries, units, and organizations, with 48 dragon boat teams registered to compete.

The event not only provided an opportunity for athletes to network and showcase their team spirit but also contributed to promoting Hanoi’s tourism image.

With six categories over a 500-meter course, teams competed with the highest spirit, delivering impressive performances.

The tournament drew the enthusiastic attention and cheers of a large crowd of local and visiting spectators. The sound of beating drums and cheers created a truly exhilarating atmosphere.

Dragon boat racing is not just a sporting event but also a symbol of unity, perseverance, and the determination to overcome challenges.
In addition to spectacular sprint finishes, the tournament also celebrated beautiful moments of determination and teamwork.

The participation of international teams added a global dimension to the competition. Through the event, Vietnam Airlines aims to help preserve and promote the nation’s traditional cultural values while also boosting Hanoi’s image as a culturally rich and historically significant destination attractive to tourists.

Each dragon boat has a drummer, a steerer, and dozens of paddlers — all needing synchronized movements and coordination to achieve optimal speed and tactics. Every team member plays a vital role in the overall success.

This year's tournament was held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2024), a meaningful time to reflect on the nation's glorious past and rich cultural traditions while aiming towards a future of integration and sustainable development.

The Vietnam Airlines dragon boat team celebrated with the corporation’s leadership. In this year’s tournament, Vietnam Airlines' team excellently defeated teams like Young Chuang China (China), Dragon Boat Innovate Singapore (Singapore), and Spanish Dragons Hong Kong (China) to win first prize in the International Dragon Boat category.
