Vietnam Airlines Leads the Way in Donating In-Flight Meals to Those in Need

08/06/2023

On June 2, 2023, as part of its cooperation agreement with VietHarvest to implement the donation of unused and high-quality in-flight meals—such as dry foods and snacks—to disadvantaged individuals and organizations, Vietnam Airlines and VietHarvest co-hosted the CEO CookOff 2023 event in Ho Chi Minh City.

CEO CookOff 2023 was a meaningful event within the series of activities celebrating 50 years of Vietnam–Australia diplomatic relations, aiming to raise charitable funds to expand VietHarvest’s operations in 2023.

At the event, the head chef and sous-chef from Vietnam Airlines Catering Services Co., Ltd. (VACS) participated by preparing and serving a dinner for 150 distinguished guests, joining hands with VietHarvest to raise funds for charitable causes.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), about 570,000 people in Vietnam face hunger and food insecurity, while approximately 8.8 million tons of food are wasted each year, equivalent to 2% of the national GDP.

By partnering with VietHarvest, Vietnam Airlines demonstrates its strong commitment to establishing an internal process encompassing collection – quality control – transfer, and taking concrete action to support those in difficult circumstances, helping to ease their burdens.

This process involves several frontline units, including the Cabin Crew Division, Noi Bai Catering Services Joint Stock Company (NCS), Vietnam Airlines Catering Services Co., Ltd. (VACS), and the Airport Services and Operations Center (ASOC), ensuring that donated meals are delivered safely and efficiently to VietHarvest.

Over its 28-year journey of formation and development, Vietnam Airlines has always upheld its vision, mission, and core values as a responsible airline group. The airline continually strives for sustainable development, adheres to environmental protection standards, and actively engages in community and social responsibility initiatives across all areas of operation.
