Western Vietnam has 12 provinces and 1 centrally-governed city including Can Tho (Cần Thơ), Long An, Tien Giang (Tiền Giang), Ben Tre (Bến Tre), Tra Vinh (Trà Vinh), Vinh Long (Vĩnh Long), An Giang, Dong Thap (Đồng Tháp), Kien Giang (Kiên Giang), Hau Giang (Hậu Giang), Soc Trang (Sóc Trăng), Bac Lieu (Bạc Liêu), and Ca Mau (Cà Mau).
According to Section II "List of anticipated names of provinces, cities and political-administrative centers (provincial seats) of 34 provincial-level administrative units" issued together with Resolution 60-NQ/TW in 2025, Western Vietnam provinces and cities after merger will include 6 provinces and cities: Tay Ninh Province (tỉnh Tây Ninh), Can Tho City (thành phố Cần Thơ), Vinh Long Province (tỉnh Vĩnh Long), Dong Thap Province (tỉnh Đồng Tháp), Ca Mau Province (tỉnh Cà Mau), and An Giang Province (tỉnh An Giang).
