Before departure, passengers need to fully prepare the necessary documents required for flying from Vietnam to international destinations, such as air tickets, valid passports, and forms of identification. In addition, passengers flying from Vietnam to Australia should be aware of the following document requirements.
Visa
The Australian Government offers different types of visas depending on the purpose and length of stay of visitors. Each type of visa has specific requirements and benefits. To apply for the appropriate visa type, passengers should go to the Australian Visa and Immigration information page.
Entry declaration form
According to Australian laws, passengers must complete an Incoming Passenger Card (IPC); please refer to the information and forms to help with the process. The Incoming Passenger Card is sent to the passenger on the aircraft or at the arrival terminal.
From 16 June 2025, the Australian Government has expanded eligibility for using the automated passport control system (Arrivals SmartGate) at international airports such as Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide.
To be eligible to use SmartGate, passengers must:
- Hold an ePassport (electronic passport);
- Be children aged 7 years or older, at least 1.1 meters tall, and accompanied by an adult.
Using SmartGate allows passengers to enter the country quickly and conveniently, helping to reduce waiting times. Passengers can refer to the instructional video on how to use SmartGate.
Quarantine regulations
Australia will no longer require vaccination proof from July 6, 2022. Accordingly, passengers traveling in Australia are not required to take a Covid-19 test or provide proof of immunization.
Cash regulations
According to regulations, passengers may bring an unlimited amount of cash into Australia, but if they bring AUD 10,000 or more, they must declare it.
Pet regulations
Australia applies very strict immigration rules for animals. Passengers traveling with pets to Australia, such as birds, cats, dogs, horses, and rabbits, can refer to the Pets & Animals page for more information.
Food regulations
Food items brought into Australia must be declared on the Incoming Passenger Card. Biosecurity officers will inspect some of the food items carried by passengers.
Australia maintains extremely strict biosecurity measures at its borders to prevent the entrance of hazardous pests. Some food items carried into Australia, including minor quantities or cooking ingredients, must be declared.
