BUSINESS OPERATION RESULTS FOR THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2016
Hanoi, April 24th 2016 – Vietnam Airlines Joint Stock Company (JSC.) announced the company's business operation results for the first quarter of 2016 as follows:
During the first quarter of 2016, Vietnam Airlines JSC. has operated in a more positive business environment: macroeconomic stability was maintained, GDP growth was healthy, air fuel prices were kept at a low level, and the exchange rates of foreign currencies in key markets against the USD all increased. The number of travelers visiting Viet Nam saw a significant rise of 20%, reaching approximately 2.46 million visitors, in which 2 million arrived by air. However, Vietnam Airlines JSC. is still faced with many challenges and volatilities, such as a raised terrorist threat in Europe especially following the bombing at the Brussels Airport in March 2016 and the fear of the Zika virus spreading to Viet Nam. These have affected the demand for travel on the company's international flight routes. The complex weather as well as infrastructural issues at a number of major airports have also had a negative impact on the implementation of Vietnam Airlines' business and service plans.
Against this backdrop, Vietnam Airlines JSC. has taken the initiative to seize the strong market growth trend. This was done in conjunction with flexible management solutions, focusing on building up resources and providing satisfactory services for the passengers, especially during the peak periods of the 12th Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the Lunar New Year 2016, among others. Thanks to the effort of the entire system, Vietnam Airlines JSC. has met and exceeded important plans and goals, enjoying a high growth compared to the last year. In particular:
During the first quarter of 2016, Vietnam Airlines JSC. has transported more than 4.6 million passengers, exceeding the plan and signifying a growth rate of 11.6% compared to the same period last year. We have operated 34,500 safe flights both domestic and international, a 9.3% rise compared to the same period last year. Cargo transport reaching almost 61 thousand tons, a 15.6% increase compared to the same period last year and exceeding the quarterly plan by 11.2%.
Total consolidated revenue of Vietnam Airlines JSC. is estimated at 19 trillion VND, growing by 13.3% and accounting for 26.4% of the yearly plan. Consolidated profit before tax is estimated at 1.071 trillion VND, a 32,5% increase compared to last year's first quarter. Among this, the parent company's revenue is estimated at more than 15 trillion VND and 873.9 billion VND in profit before tax. Labor productivity continues to grow well at a two-digit rate.
After one year of adopting the joint stock company model, Vietnam Airlines JSC. has made enormous progresses. The joint stock company model has come into stable operation; the organizational model has become more compact, centralized and efficient; our air fleet  has undergone a major step forward with the admission and putting into operation of the two most modern airplane models in the world – Airbus A350-900 XWB and Boeing 787 Dreamliner; service quality has been enhanced and meeting the Four Star International Standard; the brand image of Vietnam Airlines has become more distinguishable, more modern and more uniform. These are very positive results exhibiting the efforts of Vietnam Airlines JSC. in creating a breakthrough development stage, in applying flexible management methods, in expanding production scale, simplifying the operational mechanism and heightening productivity to increase revenue.
Between now and the end of 2016, Vietnam Airlines JSC. will continue to channel resources to ensure safety and security, to deliver quality service during peak periods, and to maintain a high level of productivity and to ensure international 4-star standard service quality.
