In addition to the above carry-on baggage standards, passengers may take some personal items on board free of charge. Please find information about personal items here.
Carry-on baggage for children under two years old should not exceed 3kg (including food, milk, and nappy) and one foldable stroller/cradle that fits inside the overhead bins. If overhead bins are out of place, strollers/cradles are transported as checked baggage (free of charge).
Important information:
If your hand baggage exceeds the quantity, weight and dimensions specified above, the baggage must be checked.
On some routes, large carry-on baggages that do meet the standards may still need to be checked in at the gate with free of charge due to limited space of overhead bins (particularly for ATR72 or A321 aircrafts).

Important Notice:
If the weight of a piece of checked baggage exceeds the above standard, passengers will be required to re-pack their baggage and pay an excess baggage fee or consider sending their baggage as cargo. Please contact us prior to your travel.

Vietnam Airlines offer service for passengers traveling with pets on the same flight. Your pets will be delivered as checked baggage. This service is available subject to specific aircraft.
Planning for travel with your pet
Passengers traveling with pet as checked baggage should contact Vietnam Airlines branch offices for advanced reservations. It is required to make the service request at least 24 hours before their departure time.

Passengers must contact the appropriate quarantine office, embassy or consulate to confirm all necessary documents such as import/export permit, quarantine certificates, health certificates and rabies immunization reports. Passengers can refer information here.
Restrictions for pets
We have temperature restrictions to make sure your pet isn’t exposed to extreme heat or cold. Accordingly, in case of special weather circumstances, passengers cannot travel with a pet if the current or forecasted temperature is too hot or too cold at any location on their itinerary.
Final acceptance for carriage of pet on board is subject to captain's approval. Passengers is fully informed about this in advance. They should be aware of all risks of pet carriage such as injury, sickness or death during carriage, even in case their pets are moved from cabin to cargo compartment due to the captain's approval.
At the airport
Passengers are required to be present at the airport early enough to complete all procedures before flight. Vietnam Airlines recommends passengers arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure time.
At the airport, passengers will be required to sign the “Waiver of responsibility” form. Passengers can also prepare this form in advance by downloading here, complete it and bring this form to the check in counter.
Passengers traveling with a pet onboard should contact Vietnam Airlines branch offices for advanced reservations. Passengers are required to make the service request at least 24 hours before their departure time.

Vietnam Airlines transports bicycles and bulky items as checked baggage.
Bicycles to be carried as checked baggage include all kinds of regular bikes, sport-bikes, powered bikes (operated by thermo-battery or electric-battery etc…).
Vietnam Airlines offers transport services for sporting equipment such as golf clubs, ski gear and diving instruments as checked baggage.
Vietnam Airlines provides complimentary transportation services for foldable carriage devices such as prams, infant strollers, wheelchairs, and pushcarts.

We aim to deliver the baggage to the correct destinations. However, sometimes baggage may be damaged, delayed, or does not reach the destinations due to inclement weather or facility requirements. Vietnam Airlines will do our utmost to resolve the problems.
Baggage Claim
Upon arrival at the airport, passengers recognize that their baggage has been delayed, missing, lost or damaged, please contact the staff of Vietnam Airlines at the airport and submit a claim report. Your claim report will be registered and then passengers will receive a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with a reference number.
Please note that PIR shall be used as the legal basis that confirms that your baggage was mishandled and shall be one of the documents for Vietnam Airlines to consider any reimbursement request for expenses and/or compensation later on.

Reimbursement request for expenses and/or compensation must be sent with PIR to Vietnam Airlines within:

We will notify passengers as soon as their baggage is located and will be delivered to the specified address, subject to local customs regulations. Alternatively, passengers may collect their baggage at the airport and we shall be glad to reimburse the transport cost.
Baggage Compensation
In the unfortunate event that your baggage is not discovered following a search, Vietnam Airlines will issue compensation 30 - 45 days following your arrival in accordance with Vietnam Airlines’ Conditions of Carriage. A search can be extended to up to 100 days if passengers wish so.
If passenger’s itinerary includes sectors operated by Vietnam Airlines and other airlines: In the event that your baggage is damaged, lost after arriving at your destination via another airline, passengers should inquire with the airline in question. In the case of code shares operated by other companies, please contact the operating company.

Forgotten Articles
Lost property that is discovered within the cabin will be kept at the airport of arrival. Depending upon what it is, the unclaimed property found in the cabin will be held by either the Vietnam Airlines baggage office or local airport authorities.
If passengers have found personal items that have been left behind in the aircraft cabin, please contact us immediately.
Checked baggage
Passengers should personally pick up their own checked baggage at the airport baggage conveyor belt upon arrival. In the event that passengers have forgotten to retrieve their baggage, please contact us immediately.
If your baggage is not picked up, Vietnam Airlines will store it for 90 days and assess applicable storage charges. If a passenger fails to claim their baggage within 90 days, its disposal is subject to Vietnam Airlines' discretion.
Return of Baggage
If your lost article is found, it will be immediately delivered to the place of your choosing. Passengers will be responsible for any shipping fees.
Items discovered in airport facilities other than the cabin may be kept at the airport building in question, or at a police station. Please inquire using the relevant contact details.
Taking the wrong baggage
Please immediately return to your airport of arrival, and notify a member of staff.
