Overwhelmed with Joy to Be a Small Part of the Journey to Prolong Life

01/08/2023

Unlike regular flights, the Hue Branch staff and on-duty professionals of Vietnam Airlines had an unforgettable experience serving flight VN1542 on July 31, which carried a healthy liver from a donor in Hue for a patient awaiting transplant at Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi.

That morning, the National Coordination Center for Organ Transplantation requested urgent assistance to support a team of doctors from Viet Duc Hospital. They were to fly on VN1543 from Hanoi to Hue at 9:55 AM and return the same day at 12:35 PM on VN1542, carrying the organ container.

Upon receiving the request, Hue Branch leadership and relevant departments immediately devised a priority plan, working closely with the ground services team to ensure the most seamless and rapid transfer. Seat reservations, safety protocols, and organ storage arrangements were all carefully planned to guarantee security and efficiency.

In less than three hours, thanks to the coordination between doctors from Viet Duc and Hue Central Hospital, and various units of Vietnam Airlines including Hue Branch, ASOC Noi Bai, and the VN1543/1542 flight crew, the life-saving mission was accomplished.

Less than 3 hours for a complete journey from Hanoi to Hue and back.

Upon hearing from the Coordination Center that the liver transplant was successful and the patient is now recovering, we were overwhelmed with joy—knowing that we had played a small yet vital part in Vietnam Airlines’ mission to extend life.

Throughout the journey, each of us was fully aware that we were transporting an invaluable asset—bringing hope and life to patients who anxiously wait for an organ transplant. Every second mattered. Any delay could mean a lost opportunity for the patient and the noble wish of the donor.

The transplant was a success; the patient is recovering.

Over the years, Vietnam Airlines and the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center have developed a dedicated protocol for urgent organ transportation, prioritizing necessary flights and medical equipment.

Vietnam Airlines maximizes support for organ transport, including establishing custom procedures, real-time emergency response teams, and airport representatives at departure and arrival points.

This seamless collaboration between Vietnam Airlines and the Center goes beyond responsibility—it touches the human heart, embodying compassion and the shared desire to do good in this world.
