Emergency Medical Diversion on Vietnam Airlines Flight to Ensure Passenger Safety
However, the passenger’s condition did not improve. The captain promptly contacted Vietnam Airlines’ Operations Control Center and informed ground staff at Phu Bai Airport (Hue) to prepare emergency vehicles and medical personnel. The flight was diverted to land at Phu Bai Airport to ensure the passenger received timely medical assistance.
Upon landing, the passenger was transferred to a local hospital for treatment, accompanied by a family member and a Vietnam Airlines representative. Flight VN158 then completed all necessary procedures and resumed its journey to Hanoi at 9:10 AM, about one hour later than scheduled.
While this unscheduled diversion incurred additional costs related to fuel, ground handling, and schedule adjustments, Vietnam Airlines reaffirmed that passenger safety and health are always the top priority in any situation.
This is not the first time Vietnam Airlines has adjusted its flight path to assist passengers in medical distress. Most recently, on May 5, 2025, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt (Germany) made an emergency landing at Erzurum Airport (Turkey) to provide urgent medical care to a passenger. In January 2025, flight VN1602 from Buon Ma Thuot to Hanoi was also diverted to Da Nang Airport for a similar reason.
