[Run For Love] When the Race Track is Felt Through Sun, Wind, and Heart

Unrendered by light or color, the world along the Run For Love race track comes alive in the minds of the visually impaired through the delicate scents of Hanoi's autumn, the rhythmic patter of footsteps, and heartbeats pulsing in unison with the community. Inspired by this unique sensory perspective, Run For Love has become a compassionate bridge, empowering vulnerable individuals to confidently take charge of their lives.

Touching Hanoi's Autumn with the Heart

For a sighted person, running is second nature. But for the visually impaired, simply navigating space or walking alone down the street presents a daunting challenge. They had never imagined being able to stride freely through an open space. Yet, the Run For Love race turned that seemingly impossible dream into reality.

Ms. Duong Thanh Hien, representing the Solar Dance Club for the visually impaired and someone who experienced the tragedy of losing her sight after an accident, paused in quiet reflection as she recalled the moment of immersing herself in the race:

“For visually impaired people like us, the world is not painted with light or vivid colors. Yet through every stride at Run For Love, that world came alive with incredible vibrancy. It was found in the firm grip of a guide's hand, and in experiencing autumn through the cool breeze and the gentle scents carried on the Hanoi air. We got to live, to laugh, to speak, to run, and to feel truly free in our minds.”

Stripped of all barriers, the Run For Love track became a haven where non-visual senses were awakened. The visually impaired were not merely exercising—they were “touching” autumn, feeling the heartbeat of the city streets, and unlocking the positive energy deep within themselves.

Awakening the Senses on the Track

It was the image of hands held tightly together throughout the entire journey that formed the compassionate soul of Run For Love. It would be nearly impossible for a visually impaired athlete to take full, confident strides without a guide runner. That companion keeps the pace, acts as their "eyes," and above all, serves as a deeply devoted mentor.

“Sister, we're running past the West Lake area right now!”, “Are you tired?”, “Keep going, the finish line is close—and even if we don't finish, you're already doing incredible!”—these gentle words of encouragement, echoed continuously alongside rhythmic breathing on the track, have remained deeply etched in Ms. Thanh Hien's mind through the years.

It is precisely this patience and unspoken harmony that dissolves the distance between the sighted and the visually impaired. Hand in hand, they pass strength to one another, crossing the final stretches together amidst the roaring cheers of the community.

Beyond its role in connecting flights across the skies, Vietnam Airlines has always quietly poured its heart into journeys that bind people together right on the ground. The annual Run For Love initiative stands as a clear testament to this enduring commitment to social responsibility.

Vietnam Airlines fosters a compassionate ecosystem where every employee and volunteer wearing the Vietnam Airlines colors step forward not only to guide the visually impaired, but to offer active listening, deep respect, and genuine care.

Through Run For Love, Vietnam Airlines reaffirms a steadfast and profound mission: to not only lift flights high into the skies, but also to lift dreams right here on the ground, creating enduring human values so that no one is left behind.

A Finish Line of Faith and the Next Generation

The vitality of Run For Love lives on in cherished memories, growing even fuller through the eager anticipation of first-time participants taking their very first steps on the track.

Do Huu Truong, a young visually impaired member of the Solar Dance Club, will join the Run For Love race for the first time this year. Truong is filled with optimism heading into the new season:

“I used to be fairly inactive, but joining the club and practicing walking and running has made me feel so much more agile. I’m incredibly excited. I hope not only to complete my own run, but also that my guide runner achieves the highest possible standing.”

From the lived experiences of veterans like Ms. Hien to the eager anticipation in every new step taken by Truong, Run For Love continues to extend bridges of hope. More than a sanctuary of love, Run For Love has become a stage where the visually impaired confidently showcase their capabilities and offer radiant artistic performances to the world.

The image of these extraordinary runners stands as the clearest proof that visually impaired individuals can conquer the race track just like anyone else. Given understanding and trust, they are ready to create miracles alongside the community. On the Run For Love track, physical barriers dissolve through the resonance of united hearts, leaving behind only deep empathy and a bond of genuine human connection.
