Support for transfer baggage
1. Connecting between domestic flights, between international flights, between domestic and international flights operated by Vietnam Airlines with 01 connecting location
- Connecting at Noi Bai, Da Nang, or Tan Son Nhat Airport in under 5 hours.
- At the departure airport: Passengers and checked baggage are checked in until they arrive at their final destination.
- At the connecting airport, passengers are not required to retrieve their checked baggage to check in for their next flight.
2. Connecting between international and domestic flights operated by Vietnam Airlines with 01 connecting location
- Connecting at Noi Bai, Da Nang, or Tan Son Nhat Airport in under 5 hours.
- At the departure airport: Passengers and checked baggage are checked in until they arrive at their final destination.
- At the international terminal of the connecting airport:
- Passengers receive checked baggage before going through security screening.
- Vietnam Airlines staff will assist passengers in moving their baggage to the next flight.
3. Connecting between international flights operated by Vietnam Airlines with 02 connecting locations
- Connecting flights at 02 of the following airports: Noi Bai, Da Nang, or Tan Son Nhat, with a connection time of less than 24 hours.
- At the departure airport: Passengers and checked baggage are checked in until they arrive at their final destination.
- At the international terminal of the connecting airport:
- Passengers receive checked baggage before going through security screening.
- Vietnam Airlines staff will assist passengers in moving their baggage to the next flight.
4. Special regulations for connecting flights at Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG)
To ensure a smooth journey, passengers should be aware of the regulations of Chinese Customs at PVG Airport as follows:
Regulations on checked baggage
- All checked baggage on connecting itineraries through PVG Airport must be checked in to PVG as the destination.
- Through check-in of baggage to the final destination is not applicable.
Mandatory check-in procedures at PVG
- Immigration check-in: Passengers must complete immigration procedures into China at PVG Airport.
- Baggage claim: After completing immigration procedures, passengers should proceed to the baggage claim area to collect all of their checked baggage.
- Baggage re‑check: Take the baggage to the check-in counter for the next flight to have it re-checked for the onward flight segment.
Important notice
If baggage is mistakenly through‑checked to the final destination (contrary to regulations), it will be retained by Customs at PVG Airport and will not be automatically forwarded. This may result in disruption to the journey and delays in the delivery of the baggage.
