Vietnam Airlines Discusses CORSIA Implementation with Nhan Dan Newspaper
On the morning of January 27, 2026, at the headquarters of Vietnam Airlines, the Sustainable Development Steering Committee (SDSC) held a working session with Nhan Dan Newspaper. The meeting aimed to exchange information regarding the green transition roadmap of the aviation industry, with a primary focus on Vietnam’s official participation in CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) starting from 2026.
The session was part of a communication initiative on the Communist Party’s official newspaper to highlight climate policies, commitments, and corporate readiness for new international requirements. During the meeting, Mr. Dinh Van Tuan, Executive Vice President and Standing Vice Chairman of the SDSC, along with members of the Secretariat and the SDSC, shared specific details on the airline’s readiness to implement CORSIA and the emission reduction solutions currently in place.
According to Vietnam Airlines, preparations for CORSIA have been implemented early and systematically. The airline has established and operated a comprehensive MRV system (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) for $CO_2$ emissions in accordance with ICAO guidelines. Furthermore, it has maintained independent verification of annual emission reports continuously since 2019. This is considered a vital foundation, enabling Vietnam Airlines to meet CORSIA requirements from the very first year of Vietnam's participation.
From 2026, based on the current network, Vietnam Airlines' routes to Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Australia will be directly affected. However, in its initial phase, CORSIA will primarily exert pressure on costs and emission management requirements rather than causing a fundamental shift in the airline's international flight network planning.
In addition to carbon offsetting, Vietnam Airlines emphasized its priority on substantive emission reduction solutions. Key strategies being accelerated include fleet renewal with fuel-efficient new-generation aircraft, optimization of flight operations, and system-wide fuel-saving initiatives. Simultaneously, Vietnam Airlines is researching, testing, and gradually expanding the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), despite ongoing challenges regarding supply, cost, and policy frameworks.
Through this working session, Vietnam Airlines and Nhan Dan Newspaper agreed to strengthen coordination in information dissemination and communication regarding CORSIA and the sustainable development efforts of the aviation industry. As the National Flag Carrier, Vietnam Airlines affirms its commitment to proactively complying with international climate requirements, contributing to Vietnam's global commitments and enhancing the position of Vietnamese aviation in the context of the global green transition.
