Vietnam Airlines Partners with Vietnam General Confederation of Labour to Bring Workers Home for Tet

For every Vietnamese person, especially those living far from home, the Lunar New Year (Tet) is a sacred time to return to their roots, pay tribute to ancestors, and gather with family to reconnect after a year apart. However, for many workers, that journey home often feels distant and difficult due to the daily struggles of making a living.

Understanding the conditions and aspirations of workers, for many years, Vietnam Airlines has partnered with the VGCL during every Tet season to organize the “Union Flight” program. The initiative aims to realize the dream of reunion, helping workers experience a truly meaningful Tet.

The program's scale has continuously expanded in terms of both the number of flights and the number of beneficiaries. In 2023, Vietnam Airlines' “Union Flight” brought about 80–100 workers home. By the 2025 Year of the Snake, Vietnam Airlines successfully coordinated the “Union Flight – Spring 2025” with two flights from Saigon to Hanoi and Saigon to Vinh, bringing 450 workers home.

This year, for the Spring 2026 (Year of the Horse), the program reached its full potential with three dedicated flights carrying 550 workers. The flights departed from Ho Chi Minh City, connecting to key transport gateways in the North and Central regions, including Hanoi, Vinh, and Hue.

A humanitarian highlight of this year's program is that Vietnam Airlines directly sponsored 50 free air tickets for workers in particularly difficult circumstances. For the remaining 500 passengers, the airline applied a 10% discount policy and prioritized seat allocation even during the peak travel season.

Mr. Dao Manh Kien, Member of the Executive Board of the VGCL and Chairman of the Vietnam Airlines Trade Union, shared: “Every ticket given is not just a seat on a flight, but a bridge to a reunion Tet for the workers. We believe that the success of an enterprise is measured not only by numbers but also by the happy smiles of workers when they are reunited with their loved ones after a long year away.”

To ensure the flights were organized safely, thoughtfully, and meaningfully, Vietnam Airlines mobilized its entire system, from flight operations to ground services. At the airport, passengers were served at dedicated check-in counters and sent off with formal ceremonies. Onboard, the atmosphere of the Vietnamese Tet was delicately recreated through dedicated service, serving as a tribute to the silent contributions of the workers throughout the past year.

“Union Flight – Spring 2026” not only demonstrates social responsibility but also serves as a testament to the deep connection between the National Flag Carrier and the community. These journeys of compassion are meaningful gifts that the VGCL and Vietnam Airlines together present to workers, opening a new year filled with hope and complete happiness.
