Vietnam Airlines Affirms Its Position Through Sustainable Values

The year 2025 was not only a resounding commercial success with record-breaking profits but also a testament to Vietnam Airlines' powerful transformation in implementing sustainable values. As the National Flag Carrier, Vietnam Airlines has created a comprehensive ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) ecosystem: from emission-reducing flights to humanitarian projects that touch the hearts of the community.

Spreading the "Green Flight" Culture

In the effort to reduce carbon emissions in Vietnam's aviation industry, 2025 witnessed historic steps by Vietnam Airlines within the Environmental pillar. From the very first day of the year, the airline became the first air carrier in Vietnam to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on its entire flight network departing from airports in Europe and the UK.

Alongside fuel solutions, the "Green Flight" culture reached millions of passengers through the "Fly Light" campaign. Following the success of the "Fly Light to Con Dao" program, the 2025 "Fly Light to Hanoi" campaign focused on encouraging baggage weight reduction and limiting plastic waste, helping to directly reduce over 2.43 tons of $CO_2$ emissions during the peak season alone.

Furthermore, Vietnam Airlines invested in a new-generation fleet that is fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. The airline also integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize flight paths, payloads, and operational processes, minimizing fuel consumption, emissions, and noise at major airports, aligning with the Government's Net Zero 2050 goal.

In tandem with flight operations, the Carrier focuses on building a "green office" model, minimizing single-use plastic waste, enhancing recycling, and applying technology in carbon emission management according to international standards. 

Prioritizing People and Community Engagement

In the Social pillar, Vietnam Airlines identifies people as the heart of its sustainable development strategy. The Carrier maintains transparent labor policies, ensuring the rights, safety, and career development opportunities for tens of thousands of employees. Professional training programs, skill enhancement initiatives, and the promotion of gender equality are implemented regularly, contributing to a professional and humanitarian working environment. This is a crucial factor in elevating service quality and flight safety.

Beyond internal operations, Vietnam Airlines actively promotes social responsibility. In 2025, the "Library of Love" journey was upgraded to an integrated model, combining indoor digital platforms with outdoor nature spaces. A moving highlight was the donation of a specialized library to the Hope Secondary School for children with disabilities and hearing impairments.

The spirit of sharing continued through the "Dream Journey 2025" program, providing memorable flight experiences for underprivileged children. Additionally, the Lotusmile member community contributed over 10 million miles to charitable activities, facilitating free transportation for hundreds of volunteer medical teams and supporting heart surgeries for tens of thousands of impoverished children.

During the nation's difficult times, such as historic floods, Vietnam Airlines, along with Pacific Airlines and VASCO, promptly transported hundreds of tons of relief goods and contributed tens of billions of VND to support affected citizens.

Governance Transparency and Innovation

Vietnam Airlines demonstrated excellent management capacity by integrating ESG standards into its business strategy. The airline enhanced reporting and information disclosure according to international practices and participated in various industry initiatives, particularly through the SkyTeam alliance. These efforts led to Vietnam Airlines being named among the Top 10 Green Vietnam ESG Enterprises 2025.

Digital transformation also plays a key role in the Governance pillar. Implementing new technical management systems and automating passenger service processes has not only increased labor productivity but also ensured absolute transparency and safety.

  • Honored by SkyTeam in "The Aviation Challenge 2025" for exemplary sustainable development solutions.
  • Named "Sustainable Airline of the Year" by World Travel Awards and ranked in the Top 100 Largest Enterprises in Southeast Asia for governance capacity.
  • The "Donate Leaves to Patch Forests" project won the "Sustainable Development Idea" prize at the Human Act Prize.

Vietnam Airlines' ESG journey in 2025 proves that a large corporation can balance economic profit with responsibility toward the planet.
