Union Flight: A Humanitarian Journey Extending Through Every Spring
After a year of hard work and dedication, returning home to reunite with family during the Lunar New Year (Tet) is the greatest longing for every migrant worker. However, the journey home can sometimes feel "farther" than ever due to financial burdens. Understanding this deeply, Vietnam Airlines (VNA) has consistently and actively partnered with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) to organize "Union Flights", bringing those far from home back to their families for the holidays.
Realizing the Dream of Reunion
Evolving from charity auctions to raise funds for airfare in its early years, the "Reunion Flight" has now been elevated to a strategic cooperation program between Vietnam Airlines and the VGCL.
Year by year, the program's scale has substantially expanded in terms of flight frequency, route network, and the number of beneficiaries. While in 2023, VNA's Union Flights carried only 80–100 workers, by Tet 2025, the airline successfully co-organized the "Spring Union Flight 2025" with two dedicated flights (HCMC–Hanoi and HCMC–Vinh) for 450 workers.
The core value that gives the "Union Flight" its enduring vitality is its unpretentious humanity. Vietnam Airlines chooses to go beyond mere formalities, listening to the specific aspirations of workers to provide the most complete experience: realizing the dream of reunion during the highest peak of travel pressure. This is an effort by the National Flag Carrier to care for the spiritual lives and share the economic burdens of those working far from home.
Continuing this legacy, for Tet 2026 (Year of the Horse), Vietnam Airlines is deploying the "Union Flight" with full force, bringing 550 workers home. According to the approved plan, the airline will operate three dedicated flights connecting Ho Chi Minh City with key transport gateways in the North and Central regions. These flights are scheduled to depart on February 12, 2026 (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month).
A highlight of this year's humanity is VNA’s direct sponsorship of 50 free air tickets for workers in particularly difficult circumstances. For the remaining 500 passengers funded by the VGCL, VNA is applying a 10% discount and prioritizing capacity allocation even as Tet travel demand hits its peak.
Pioneering for Community Interests
To ensure the success of these flights and provide a thoughtful, meaningful experience for workers, VNA’s entire system—from flight operations to ground services—has been synchronized.
The Corporation's Trade Union has coordinated with units such as ASOC, VIAGS, VACS, the Flight Crew Division, and the Cabin Crew Division to implement a unique welcoming process, ensuring consistency and efficiency. At Tan Son Nhat International Airport, dedicated check-in counters and a formal send-off ceremony will be organized to enhance service quality. Onboard, services are infused with the identity of the Vietnamese Tet, demonstrating practical care and appreciation for the workers' silent contributions over the past year.
The maintenance and expansion of the "Union Flight" through each spring is not merely an act of social responsibility; it is how Vietnam Airlines builds deep trust and cohesion with the community. It serves as a testament to a state-owned enterprise that not only excels in business but also pioneers activities for the public good.
As Spring 2026 knocks on the door, these flights carrying the responsibility and affection of Vietnam Airlines are ready to take off. The journey of the Spring 2026 Reunion Flights once again affirms: Vietnam Airlines does not just connect destinations; it connects noble humanitarian values, accompanying the sustainable development of society.
We take pride in a National Flag Carrier that knows how to make life more beautiful through practical actions. The "Union Flight" will forever be a warm flame, comforting those far from home, extending the bridges of love, and affirming a simple yet profound truth: Wherever there is a longing for reunion, the Golden Lotus will be there to accompany and protect.
