Environment Vietnam Airlines joins hands to launch the campaign “For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam” 05/06/2024 As the national flag carrier and a promoter of sustainable tourism, Vietnam Airlines has partnered with MoMo Travel to implement the initiative “Leaves for Forests”, as part of the larger campaign. Through this initiative, both companies will jointly allocate part of their revenue to fund forest restoration, helping to reconnect large green forest areas. For every successful Vietnam Airlines flight ticket purchase worth at least VND 2,000,000 via MoMo Travel, or payment via the MoMo super app, customers will contribute VND 5,000 (equivalent to one "Leaf") toward the goal of restoring 50 hectares of natural forest between Mai Chau (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho (Son La). The campaign will run from June 5, 2024 to December 31, 2024. Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy CEO of Vietnam Airlines, said: “Vietnam Airlines always prioritizes sustainable development, including nature conservation, environmental protection, and carbon emission reduction. Forest restoration is one of the most practical and effective solutions. With the capacity and credibility of the participating organizations, and the support of the community, we believe this campaign will succeed and contribute to a greener, more sustainable Vietnam. It is also a strong response to the global movement toward net-zero emissions and climate change mitigation.” Mr. Nguyen Hoanh Tien, Senior Executive Vice President – Head of Marketing and Distribution Solutions at MoMo, shared: “MoMo is not only Vietnam’s leading super app but also an efficient online fundraising platform through digital tools, offering a fresh philanthropic experience for users. We are honored to provide the platform and technology solutions to support the sustainable travel movement in Vietnam. Through each booking transaction, MoMo Travel proudly contributes to restoring the natural beauty of the Northwestern forests. We hope this campaign spreads positive messages and raises awareness about forest protection nationwide, helping accelerate and sustain the forest recovery journey for future generations.” Implementation Partner: PanNature PanNature (People and Nature Reconciliation) – a non-profit organization with 20 years of experience in nature conservation – will oversee the campaign’s execution. Their responsibilities include creating restoration plans, preparing seedlings, engaging local communities and authorities, organizing planting activities, and monitoring long-term forest recovery. Mr. Trinh Le Nguyen, PanNature Director, said: “Forest restoration is an urgent task in this decade of ecosystem recovery. This effort requires endurance and unity from all of society, especially from local communities and corporate support. Over the years, PanNature has implemented forest restoration in Son La and will continue under the ‘Green Forest Rising’ program. This initiative aims to revive the natural forest corridor between Hoa Binh and Son La, expand habitats for the endangered White-cheeked Gibbon, and promote green livelihoods in this vital ecosystem. We deeply appreciate the partnership with Vietnam Airlines and MoMo, and hope for strong public support through the campaign ‘For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam.’” Ecological Importance of the Area The natural forest corridor along the limestone mountains between Hoa Binh and Son La is one of Vietnam’s “green lungs” and the source of major rivers such as the Da River and Red River, which flow through the Northern Delta. It is also home to the critically endangered White-cheeked Gibbon, an endemic primate, along with many other wild species. However, human activities like exploitation and farming have severely fragmented and degraded the area. Natural forest regeneration alone would take a long time. However, with human support, the recovery process can be significantly accelerated and made more effective. See more:
