Formerly known as Thu Duc District, this area has evolved into Thu Duc City, a vibrant hub in Ho Chi Minh City. Merged from Districts 2, 9, and Thu Duc in 2021, it’s now a center for education, technology, and green living. Whether you're exploring the Thu Duc District map, planning a visit, or discovering hidden local gems, this guide covers everything you need to know about the city's most forward-thinking district.
Important notice: Although many still refer to it as Thu Duc District, this area is officially known as Thu Duc City since 2021, after merging with District 2 and District 9 in Ho Chi Minh City. However, according to recent administrative changes, starting from July 1, 2025, Vietnam will no longer have a "city within a city" model. As a result, Thu Duc City will be restructured into a series of urban wards under Ho Chi Minh City. This guide uses the term "Thu Duc District" to help international readers recognize the area, though its official status may differ.
Covering an area of about 211 km², Thu Duc is home to over 1 million residents. The region borders several districts: to the west are Binh Thanh and Go Vap, to the south are District 2 and District 1, and to the north and east are Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces. For better navigation, a Thu Duc District map is useful to visualize its extensive boundaries and neighboring areas.

Administratively, Thu Duc consists of several wards, including Thao Dien, An Phu, Linh Trung, Linh Xuan, and many others. Each ward offers distinct characteristics, from high-end expat zones to local residential neighborhoods.
What sets Thu Duc apart is its vision as a "smart city" focused on innovation, education, and high technology. It houses major institutions such as Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, along with the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, logistics centers, and modern residential projects like Vinhomes Grand Park. With growing infrastructure, wide green spaces, and access to key highways and public transport systems, Thu Duc is quickly becoming a new economic and living hub in southern Vietnam.
Transportation Options: Getting to Thu Duc City is convenient thanks to its well-connected transportation network.
