Travel document

International flights

All passengers (regardless of nationality) on international flights should carry the following travel documents:

  • Passport;
  • Travel documents or immigration documents in accordance with Vietnamese Law on entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners (such as loose-leaf visa, permanent residence card, temporary residence card, identity card. Identity card, or alternative documents as per agreement between the nations).
  • If your children do not have a passport, their full names, date of birth and stamped portrait picture have to be available in the travel document of the legitimate representative.

Vietnam domestic flights

Foreign nationals should carry one of the following documents or electronic data with equivalent validity:

  • Passports (with latest entry verification stamp) or documents of international travel validity (with latest entry verification stamp), and documents related to residence in Vietnam such as visas, permanent residence cards, temporary residence cards, and APEC business travel cards (except for visa exemption cases);
  • Identity cards issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to members of diplomatic missions, consular agencies, and representatives of international organizations;
  • International driving license or driving license issued by Vietnamese competent agencies;
  • Aviation Security control card (long – term validity);
  • Vietnamese airlines identity card;
  • Level 2 Electronic Identification Account of the Passengers;
  • Identity cards issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs to members of diplomatic missions, consular agencies, and representatives of international organizations;
  • In case of passport loss, a diplomatic note certifying personal identification and passport loss with portrait pictures and stamp is required. Diplomatic note is valid within 30 days from the date of confirmation.

Vietnamese nationality

  • Vietnamese passengers over the age of 14 should carry one of the following documents or electronic data with equivalent validity:
    • Passport or Travel Document;
    • Loose - leaf Visa;
    • Permanent residence card, temporary residence card;
    • Citizen Identification card;
    • Identification card;
    • Military Identity card;
    • National Assembly membership card;
    • Communist Party of Vietnam membership card;
    • Press Identity card;
    • Driving license issued by Vietnamese competent agencies;
    • Aviation Security control card (long – term validity);
    • National Security Aviation Committee card;
    • Vietnamese airlines Identity card;
    • Certifying personal identification form by local police or authorities citing passenger‘s permanent residence or temporary residence. Certifying forms must include the following information: certifying authority offices and their officer; date of certification; certified person‘s name, date of birth, gender, residence and hometown;  
    • Above certifying forms must be attached with stamped portrait picture and shall be valid within 30 days from the date of confirmation;
    • Certifying form by authorities about passenger‘s sentenced completion;
    • Electronic identification account (e-ID account) with level 2 on passengers' VNeID app.
  • Vietnamese passengers under 14 years old and from 14 years old to over 14 years old for no more than 20 days should carry one of the following documents or electronic data with equivalent validity:
    • Birth Certificate;
    • Excerpt of civil status;
    • Excerpt of birth certificate (Excerpt of birth information);
    • Confirmation document of civil status;
    • For under 02-month-old infants with no birth certificates, notifications of birth are required;
    • Level 2 Electronic Identification Account of the Passengers;
    • The passenger's identity information in the Level 2 Electronic Identification Account of the parent or guardian traveling on the same flight;
    • Certifying document by a social organization for children under the patronage of that organization (only valid within 6 months from the date of confirmation);
    • Identity confirmation by the police containing the following information: confirmation agency, confirming person; date, month, year of confirmation; the full name, date of birth, gender, permanent residence of the person confirmed; reason for confirmation. The confirmation document should be valid within 30 days from the date of confirmation;
    • Citizen identification card, identification card, passport (separate passport or minor included passport).

The travel document conditions

Passengers’ travel documents as referred above must meet the following conditions:

  • Travel documents are the original copies, stamped with portrait picture and still valid.
  • If passengers use birth registration or birth certificate, that travel document must be the original copy or a copy certified by a notarial office with legal status.

Documents without a stamped portrait picture are not accepted. Except: Birth Certificate, Birth Certifying Form, or escort document issued by a recognized authority.
