Baby stroller transportation service

Vietnam Airlines transports strollers for infants (under 2 years old) for free in checked or carry-on luggage. The stroller must fit into a baggage compartment in the passenger cabin. Passengers should contact Vietnam Airlines sales offices to book the service at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Passengers are advised to be at the airport at least 02 hours before departure to ensure sufficient flight check-in time.

Bassinet service

Vietnam Airlines provides bassinet service for free for infants under two years old and weighing no more than 11kg. Please be aware that bassinets are provided in a limited quantity and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Special meals for minors

Vietnam Airlines provides free special meals for children (under 12 years old). Passengers, please find out information about the Special Meal and book the service in advance for a more complete flight experience.

In addition, passengers can prepare and bring their own meals on board. However, the self-prepared meals need to comply with Vietnam Airlines' regulations and carry-on baggage standards. Passengers, please refer to additional information on restricted items and liquids on the aircraft.

Unaccompanied minor service

According to Vietnam Airlines regulations, children aged 2 to under 12 must be accompanied by adults. For unaccompanied minors, please book the unaccompanied minor service in advance.

Notes

  • Vietnam Airlines does not carry children under 7 days old or those who require incubator care due to premature birth or medical issues.
  • Medical clearance will be necessary for children who require specific medical care. Please see more information on passengers who require medical clearance.
  • Children under the age of two must share a seat with an adult because Vietnam Airlines does not provide separate seats for them.

Conditions for people accompanying children under 14 years old

Vietnam Airlines does not apply restrictions to passengers travelling with children over the age of 14. When travelling with children under the age of 14, passengers must meet the general and special conditions outlined in the itinerary below.

General conditions

All passengers travelling with children need to meet the following general conditions:

  • Passengers are healthy adults aged 18 or older who do not require Special Services (except for the Meal Service), are capable of caring for children/infants during the flights, and are not at the same time accompanying a passenger with disabilities.
  • An adult can accompany:
    • Up to 01 infant under 02 years old;
    • Up to 02 children between 02 and 06 years old;
    • Up to 01 under-two-year-old infant and 01 child between 2 and 6 years old;
    • Children from 6 years old: No quantity limit;
    • When the number of minors flying with a passenger over 18 years old exceeds the above standard, please contact Vietnam Airlines ticket office/agent to book the Accompanying Cabin Crew Service.

Conditions applicable on Vietnam domestic itineraries

A child companion does not need to be a parent/guardian, nor does a letter of authorization from the parent/guardian.

Conditions applicable on international itineraries

For Vietnamese national children, a companion needs to meet the above general conditions and the following conditions:

  • On flights from foreign destinations to Vietnam, the accompanying passenger is not required to be a parent/guardian/authorized person.
  • On flights from Vietnam to foreign destinations, a companion is required to be the parent/guardian/authorized person with documentation supporting the relationship with the child (birth certificate, household records or authorization certificate).

For children with foreign nationality or statelessness, a companion must meet the above general conditions and the following conditions:

  • On international flights to Vietnam, a companion must be the parent/guardian/authorized person and has documentation supporting the relationship with the child (birth certificate, household records or authorization certificate).
  • On flights from Vietnam to foreign destinations, the accompanying passenger is not required to be a parent/guardian/authorized person unless there are any other regulations by destination country.

Free baggage allowance for children under 2 years old

Child passengers on Vietnam Airlines are always entitled to specific baggage allowances.

Carry-on baggage for children under two years old includes 1 piece and should not exceed 3kg (including food, milk, and nappy) and one compact stroller/cradle that fits inside an aircraft baggage compartment. If carry-on baggage compartments are out of place, strollers/cradles are transported as checked baggage (free of charge).

Checked baggage pieces for children under-2-year-old infants (not seated separately) are free of charge:

  • From/To the Americas: 01 piece, with a maximum weight of 23kg (total 3 dimensions do not exceed 115cm) and one foldable stroller.

  • Other itineraries: 01 piece, with a maximum weight of 10kg (total 3 dimensions do not exceed 115cm) and one foldable stroller. Children under the age of two can bring a foldable stroller for free with tickets that do not have a free baggage allowance.

Airfares for minors

An infant under the age of 2 who does not have a seat is charged 10% of the adult passenger's fare.

Children between the ages of 2 and 12:

  • On Vietnam domestic itineraries, apply 90% adult fare;
  • On international itineraries, apply 75% adult fare.

For children 12 years and older, apply adult fare.

How to determine a child's age

The age of passengers is calculated as of the departure date of the first flight of the itinerary, in which:

  • Infants are passengers under the age of two who have yet to achieve their second birthday.
  • Children are defined as passengers aged 2 to under 12 who have not yet reached their 12th birthday.
  • Passengers who are 12 or older are considered adults.

Counter check-in

Passengers travelling with children should arrive at the airport around 2 hours before the departure time and prepare the necessary documentation for check-in. Vietnam Airlines advises passengers travelling with children or in family groups to check in online to save time and select suitable seats in advance.
