Social Security UN Women Honors Vietnam Airlines' Relentless Efforts for Gender Equality 29/11/2024 The WEPs Awards Application (Women's Empowerment Principles Awards) is an initiative by UN Women, implemented across countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam. This marks the fourth year UN Women has partnered with the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to organize the program. Vietnam Airlines Proudly Wins First Prize in the Category of Gender Equality Through Community Engagement and Partnerships The award recognizes Vietnam Airlines’ continuous efforts in promoting gender equality and creating development opportunities for women through community activities and sustainable partnerships. The National Flag Carrier has long been one of the few pioneering enterprises advancing gender equality and empowering women both within the aviation industry and across society. Vietnam Airlines and other awardees at the WEPs Awards Ceremony Since 2022, Vietnam Airlines has actively supported the United Nations’ global campaign “Orange the World” by launching its annual "Orange Flight" initiative. These flights utilize the symbolic color orange to raise awareness against violence towards women and deliver powerful humanitarian messages to millions of international passengers. Through every flight, Vietnam Airlines reaffirms the importance of spreading the values of gender equality globally. The “Orange Flight” activity by Vietnam Airlines supports UN Women's campaign to call for collective action to end gender-based violence In October, Vietnam Airlines also partnered with UN Women to organize a pink-themed HeForShe flight, carrying the message "For the Women Around Us." This was part of UN Women's global HeForShe movement, which encourages men and boys to actively engage in promoting gender equality and protecting women's rights. Vietnam Airlines’ "Pink Flight" joins hands for gender equality In addition, Vietnam Airlines has been actively supporting women and children in difficult circumstances by donating essential supplies to women and children at the Ho Chi Minh City Shelter Center, providing household appliances and financial support to women at the Can Tho Shelter Center, and collaborating with social enterprises to assist survivors of gender-based violence. Notably, Vietnam Airlines has signed a cooperation agreement with UN Women for the 2024–2026 period to implement programs aimed at raising public awareness on gender equality and building an equal, sustainable working environment where all employees, regardless of gender, are given opportunities to grow and contribute. Looking ahead, Vietnam Airlines will continue to assert its pioneering role by launching an international “Orange Flight” on the Hanoi – Bangkok (Thailand) route. This event will not only symbolize the airline’s commitment to gender equality but also serve as an opportunity to convey meaningful messages to international friends. The flight further highlights Vietnam Airlines' role as a bridge for cultural, social, and humanitarian connections worldwide. Beyond social activities, Vietnam Airlines also focuses on creating an inclusive workplace where women are encouraged to take on leadership and management roles. Internal training programs, dedicated welfare policies, and skills development support for female employees have helped improve gender parity within the company, fostering a diverse, dynamic, and harmonious workforce.
